Whole Foods Market — free food sampling, Part 2

Last sampling event? Costco, or better?

Last sampling event at Whole Foods. Costco, or better?

Whole Foods Market will host another free holiday food sampling event this weekend at every store in the nation, including those in Orange County.

The food tasting is from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 14). When the store did a free sampling a month ago, many of you complained that this would be a “Costco-style” gleaning event with small bite size portions.

But Whole Foods representatives in Orange County tell me that stores are offering “full size” portions.

In other words, there’s plenty of food to nibble on for a full meal. From the looks of these photos, it does seem more like a free buffet. Did anyone go to the sampling last month?

If so, let us know if it’s worth it.

On the menu: ham,  pheasant breast, mashed potatoes, roasted brussels sprouts, green bean almandine, traditional pot roast and rum raisin empanada.

Depending on location, some Whole Foods stores will have the tasting set up in one central location and others have tasting stations set up throughout the store. In Tustin, the food will be handed out near the taqueria at the back of the store.

Whole Foods O.C. locations:
The Tustin store is at 2847 Park Avenue at The District shopping center. Phone: 714.566.7650
Laguna Beach store (formerly Wild Oats) is at 283 Broadway St. Phone: 949.376.7888

Yes, the free Chipotle burrito rumor is true. But there’s a catch: you have to dress up like a burrito.

I got the burrito tip from Daily Deal & Travel blogger Jen Leo at the Los Angeles Times. I followed up with Chipotle, and they confirmed that the rumor, posted on Chowhound.com, is indeed true.

So, what does a burrito costume look like? Can you just wrap yourself in foil? And if so, that seems like a costly way to get a free burrito.
