11 a.m. update to correct bun size

The mini-foods trend erupted this year with the invasion of petite desserts and slider burgers.
Now Togo’s is joining the pint-size trend by debuting a line of six Mini Classic sandwiches. Starting Wednesday, the San Jose-based chain will add the $2.50 sandwiches to its menu.
The minis are made with a 2-inch *3 1/2-inch roll and come in six choices: Turkey & Cheese (No. 3); Hot Pastrami (No. 9); Roast Beef (No. 7); Tuna (No. 20); Turkey and Avocado (No. 24); and Chicken Salad (No. 29).
The new line targets customers who want a snack size sandwich with fewer calories. Togo’s maintains that each sandwich is less than 350 calories.
“Our new Mini Classics offer our most popular classic sandwiches perfectly portioned and perfectly priced,” said Togo’s Chief executive Tony Gioia.
The move represents another major shift for the chain, which has struggled to compete against the $5 sub deals found at rivals such as Subway and Quiznos. In January, the chain began promoting a $3.99 daily sub deal to lure diners. That deal will remain a value item on the menu, Togo’s said.
Tell us: Do you think these minis will attract customers to Togo’s?

$2.50 seems a bit steep for a sandwich on a 2-inch roll.
I don’t know about fewer calories since most people would probably eat two at a sitting. It does allow for a variety since your meal can consist of two different sandwiches.
Togo’s: If you are “struggling to compete” with the $5 sub deals at Subway and Quizno’s, introducing a $2.50, TWO inch sandwich is not the way to do it. That comes out to (lemme get my calculator out) $15 for a 12 inch (or foot long) sandwich! How does $15 vs $5 for a foot long compare???!! Here’s an idea: if you want to compete with the “BIG GUYS” then compete and come out with a $5 foot long or join the fro yo shops and be prepared to close your doors!
anything’s better than Subway. nasty… I wouldn’t buy one of their footlongs for $4 let alone 5 bucks.
I agree with Rob. That’s a rip off big time!
And ya, Subway doesn’t have the best tasting sandwiches but if they are the #1 franchise obviously plenty of people go eat there! I go every now and then..The food isn’t that bad.
Agreed! Subway is terrible. Every time I have ever gone there the bread is stale and drier than an old loaf of bread. They once squirted a tiny amount of mayo on my sandwich and they said if I wanted more I would have to pay. Forget Subway. You’re lucky to get a couple little slices of meat or cheese. All you’re getting is some cruddy bread sandwich. At least a Togos they give you a little more stuff in your sandwich.
The $5 foot long is a total scam. A meatball is like $5.19 so you save a whopping 19 cents. Big deal!
Subway is the last sandwich place I would go. I’d go to Jersey Mikes or Togo’s. I’d go to Mc Donalds before I went to Subway.
Submarina is the best. They slice the meat and the cheese upon order. Bice big sanwiches too. I hate hate hate hate subway.
Subway lost my business the day the owner of the location near my work told his worker to take one slice of meat off of my sandwich because he had exceeded the amount he was supposed to put on it. That 5 cent piece of meat cost him a customer for life.
Just another fad that will come and go. $2.50 for about two bites of a sandwich? I don’t think so.
One more thing…your new 2 inch sandwich has 350 calories or less? You call that healthy?? Who are ya kidding?! Two of those are about 700 calories! A big mac has 540 calories and a whopper has 680 calories. There are at least seven, 6 inch sandwiches at Subway between 230-330 calories! They aren’t the most tasty but it does the job…I used to LOVE the sandwiches at Togo’s but you are a rip off!
not only that, but subway’s “mini subs” each have 200 calories or less.
don’t forget Quiznos has the mini flatbread sammies at $2 each (some of their locations charge $2.50, I won’t play that game). Plus the skinnier footlong “torpedoes” are $4 and smaller version called “bullets” are $3.
holy breadwich!!
Those are cute - I’ll take a dozen.
HOW MUCH???!!!
yum… I like Togos a lot. would definitely try these, though they seem a bit small for $2.50 based on the picture. I’d probably still prefer the $3.99 daily sub over two $5 mini subs. more food
The Togo’s rep gave me wrong info on the bun size. I just corrected the post. The correct size is 3 1/2 inches.
That’s more like it.

so today is the last day for the Togo’s pastrami “money back guarantee” promotion? and they’re giving away a free bag of chips with any pastrami? yes? no?

I personally think Togo’s has the best sandwiches as far as chain places. But their prices are what turn me off! Same thing with Quiznos except their portions are bad too.
I can never finish a 6″ sub, so this nosher mini sub is perfect for me. I don’t drink soda and rarely have chips, so I’m a cheap Togo’s date!
The price is a bit high, but I would rather have the mini than waste food.
Same here. I rarely drink soda, and hate chips. I was thinking 2 of these might make a perfect lunch today!
me too, though the 6″ at Togos is just enough to fill me up by itself. I rarely get chips, and when I do I typically don’t finish them.
Becca-
Whatcha doing Saturday? ha ha jk!
Sorry Rob, couldn’t wait for our Saturday night date. Nancy, I ordered two mini’s today one for lunch and one for dinner. The turkey w/cheese mini tasted just like the regular 6″. Roast beef later today. Perfect lite lunch so far. The employee at Togo’s did say this was for a limited time only. I hope they keep these on the menu!
Bummer Becca! Saturday date was at TGI Friday and it’s free since you said you are a “cheap date”!
I went there yesterday but didn’t order the minis. I still think the $3.99 daily special is a better deal and plenty filling for me (unless I can’t stand the special that day, then I’d try two of the minis).
good for kids though I’m sure.
