Henry’s Farmers Market and Sprouts Farmers Market are going head to head in Orange County.
Henry’s and the Irvine Co. jointly announced plans for a Henry’s market at the The Market Place in Tustin. The more than 22,000-square-foot grocery store will replace the former CompUSA space, which shuttered all four of its O.C. locations in 2007.
This will be Henry’s sixth O.C. market. The farmers market offers a similar variety of groceries as Sprouts, which operates five stores in Seal Beach, Irvine, Brea, Orange and Tustin. Another Sprouts is planned for Huntington Beach.
Shoppers who like Whole Foods Market and Trader Joe’s tend to frequent Henry’s and Sprouts because they offer a wide variety of natural foods at low prices.
“We look forward to serving the Tustin and Irvine area residents, and are excited to offer the shoppers of The Market Place a full-service neighborhood grocery store that prides itself on high-quality products at affordable prices,” said Aimee Della Bitta, marketing manager for Henry’s.
Henry’s is owned by the same company that operates Smart & Final. The store will open in the summer of 2010 near T.J. Maxx.

OMG. I thought the 2 stores were the same!! The lettering of their company names look amazingly close, and the store set up too!
Sprouts is owned by the family that started Henry’s.
Is Henry’s owned Smart and Final? Does anyone know?
Yep; SNF bought them from Whole Foods which bought Wild Oats (which by the way, was a great store - but a little before it’s time) which Henry’s was a part off.
I really hoped Fresh & Easy would take over that space, or the Circuit City space, but Henry’s is a nice place to have nearby as well. Sure beats the “Garden Patch” we have over here by Target.
Sprouts is way better!
I prefer Sprouts. I think its less expensive than Henry’s.
I love Sprouts! A great selection of high-quality produce at the same price for the garbage you get at Vons/Ralphs. My produce from Sprouts stays fresher for a much longer time than any supermarket produce. I also love the bulk nuts and grains - you can buy small amounts for just what you need at a fantastic price.
I would take either one! Please put a Henry’s or Srouts in South Ontario! We like to eat healthy too! Everything is either put in Chino HIlls or Rancho Cucamonga! We are forgotten!
I prefer Henry’s. I loved their sales. Since buying there my kids are finally eating food.
Haha same! I thought Henry’s and Sprouts were the same company!
I love Sprouts and Henrys. Glad something is opening at the old Circuit City.
COMP USA! (near Old Navy)
Circuit City was across the street … Irvine Marketplace. it’s that big vacant spot off of Bryan.
I prefer Henry’s. The stores are nicer and the staff seems happier. Product selection and pricing are about the same, but Henry’s is just better…like comparing Target to Walmart…
Been to each place once, pretty nice. Each visit was when there was some weekly special on the fruits. They probably have the best prices for fruits on sale, but I haven’t added either place into my regular shopping rotation of Ralph/s, Stater Bros. and Vons.
I shop at the Sprouts in Tustin really just to get the produce that I cant get at Trader Joes. It does seem like in the last 6 months the quality of that Sprouts produce has taken a nose dive. Either it looks awful in the store, or it rots in 2 days at home.
I hope they change something soon because they’re gonna lose a customer
I used to shop weekly at the Henry’s in Costa Mesa. Since I’ve moved, I shop weekly at the Sprouts in Seal Beach. The only difference I can discern is, the rotisserie chickens from Sprouts aren’t as good as the ones from Henry’s. Both stores are excellent!
There is almost no difference between Henrys or Sprouts. If you need to choose, go to whatever is closer that way you will save gas. I’ve grown accustomed to Henrys.
And why should there be?
“Sprouts is a privately owned Arizona-based chain of specialty grocery stores with locations in Arizona, California, Colorado and Texas. Sprouts stores are smaller than a typical supermarket, focusing on fresh foods, produce, healthy foods and vitamins/supplements. Management hopes to have over 50 stores by 2010.
Sprouts is the second specialty market developed by the Henry Boney family, who sold their Henry’s Farmers Markets in 1999.[1]”

thank god… I live in Tustin and we love Henry’s!! it was ridiculous that the only location remotely within driving distance was in Costa Mesa.
I did go to Sprouts the other day, and while it’s not bad, and I have been to the one in Orange that opened recently I am just used to Henry’s and this will be the closest for me. Plus that Comp USA has been empty F-O-R-E-V-E-R, glad they finally filled it with something good.
Henery’s in Mission Viejo is awesome! Great sales and everyday low prices on produce & meats. Nice people working there. More power to ‘em.
Please, please, put one in San Clemente!
Henry’s is the best most of the time. Sometimes Stater Bro or Ralphs might have something on sale they dont but for the most part Henry’s is the best for produce. I can buy $5.00 worth of produce sometimes and take home a variety of things compared to the usual stores.
Honestly they seem very similar to me. But as far as actual visits,Sprouts! Their prices seem to be lower on a consistant basis.
Wow. So another Henry’s opens near my house… After I moved out. Just my luck. It’d be nice to see something like Henry’s or Sprouts open in Las Vegas, but I’m not holding my breath. People here are still in awe of “Whole Paycheck”.
LOVE LOVE LOVE HENRY’S! Cannot beat their sales on fresh produce!
Nothing beats Henry’s! No how, no way! Once this location opens I can say Adios to all the other retailers. I’m with Henry’s for life!
They’re virtually identical, but Henry’s usually has a better deal on produce. If you look at parsley, cilantro, green onions, radishes, spinach, etc… both stores appear to have the same prices, but Henry’s will put more into each bundle.
Personally, I think that Sprouts will not make it. They do not have a good selection, their deli food selection is not large, and most of the food is way overpriced. They do have some produce on sale for a low price every week, but it’s not much lower or any better than Ralphs. In fact, Ralphs seeems to be lowering produce prices more every week.
I would much rather shop at Fresh & Easy-at least they have items that I can use to make a full meal at a reasonable price. The Sprouts in our area has a person in a straw hat standing on the corner waving a Sprous sign- which probably means they are not doing well.
PLEASE put sprouts, henry’s and whole foods in ghetto areas, and also around Garbage Grove, Disneyland. they got LOTS AND LOTS OF TOURISTS LOOKING FOR HEALTHY FOOD RATHER THAN FOOD 4 LESS-junk Ralphs Junk, Stater Bros Junk, Vons Junky expensive
