The Orange County Register will launch a redesigned website Monday morning, and the makeover includes some tweaks to our blogs — including mine.
We’ve been testing the new system for a few weeks, and I hope you like it. It’s supposed to be easier to navigate and faster. Unfortunately, my original blog banner (shown above) goes away with the redesign.
I will miss it. Thank you Lisa Mertins (former OCR illustrator) for designing such a fun cartoon rendering for the Fast Food Maven, which debuted in August 2007. My plan is to save the “crown of fries” mug shot for future use.
Anyway, I just thought I’d give you guys a warning because all of our OCR blogs will change come Monday and I didn’t want anyone to be confused by the new look.

Thanks for the heads up! Actually, I never did realize it was a crown of fries. I just thought it was a regular crown (I never looked that closely).
That was a clever crown of fries, but I, too, didn’t realize it was such. I look forward to the new blog look, even if it’s not as clever.
Here’s hoping you don’t go away.
I see your articles all week long and my wife and family base where we go to your articles.
Keep up the good work!
Speaking of fries I was in a KFC the other day and they told me they didn’t
have the ‘potato wedges’ any more just conventional french fries of the sort you get at burger joints. Is this a national thing or just a local franchisees stupid decision?
Make sure your new logo isn’t too tiny so people can see the details.
Apparently, the fries part of the crown was never noticed due to the small size of the logo and detail needed to see this.
Why not just use a tub of ice cream over your head?
So, bummed people never noticed the “edible crown” ….Oh, well. Unforunately, the new logo is vanilla — very plain branding to match the rest of the blogs. My real face will be on the new banner, which I am quite embarassed to see on a daily basis. I hope you don’t mind.
Never knew it was fries. You look much more attractive in photos than in that rendering.
I’m sure the redesign will bring in much more revenue (HA)!
I think you should have someone make a real French Fry Crown for you to wear and then have that picture replace this one!
Replace it with an over-priced fish taco, that’s all you can find in the OC anymore.
Nancy, I noticed the edible crown and thought it was very creative. Sorry to hear that all the blogs are going to be “vanilla”.
Keep up the good work. You’re the only reason why I visit the OCRegister site!

New site looks great, Nancy! And the pic rocks.
Your new picture is up, now we can relate to you more often…
Ugh. Can’t stand the new site. It’s not easier to navigate. I used to be able to get to the blogs in about 2 clicks. Now I can’t figure out how to just get the blog. I have to click on an article in the blog, and then click on the banner to get the whole blog. SO ANNOYING!!!!
Also, the site used to be colorful, and now it’s BLAH.
I’m just going to bookmark the blogs I like and come in by direct link.
Sorry, Julie….this new site is frustrating.
The bad news: The Staff blogs are now found at the bottom of the site.
http://www.ocregister.com/sections/blogs/
The good news : You can drag this section up to the top of the website homepage because the new site offers customization …
Now you need to 86 the pic in your contact box.
The one of me eating the burger? That’s always been there. In fact, that is the very first picture I used for my beta blog. It’s also my “Twitter” photo.
I agree with Julie:
“Ugh. Can’t stand the new site. It’s not easier to navigate.”
It runs a lot slower for me and there is less information on each page. I used to be able to go to my city and see articles for the past few months listed. Today an article that ran yesterday wasn’t even listed.
When will people learn? If it’s NOT broke don’t try to fix it!!!!!
As long as I can get my RDA of The Maven I’m good. I just bookmark the blog and it works fine.
At least I’m not seeing teeth whitening ads right this second…
I only seemed to notice the slice of pizza in the banner.
This might seem a little OT here but have you ever considered having a “Maven Meetup” for all of your followers? Something like they do over on Yelp with their UYE’s or Unofficial Yelp Events.
Think about it.
nancy,
i saw your fries crown in the dead trees edition…it’ll be missed…the changes did not make it easier to navigate at all….
