seattle-best-logo2A round up of food news for the week:

  • The Subway-Seattle’s Coffee experiment apparently went well.  Starbucks,  which owns Seattle’s Coffee, said Friday that it has struck a deal with the nation’s biggest sandwich chain to start serving the coffee in all Subways. By the end of the year, more than 9,000 Subway restaurants in the U.S. will offer Seattle’s Best Coffee, the chain said. The move comes a year after Starbucks said it would test serving the Seattle brand in 1,900 Subways.
  • Blackmarket Bakery in Irvine is hosting its annual fall open house from 2-5 pm  Saturday (11/7). That means free samples from chef Rachel’s kitchen! Address: 17941 Sky Park Circle # E
    Irvine.
  • Arby’s is hoping to boost sales with a revamped $1 menu. Executives for the chain, which merged last year with Wendy’s, said “they’ll make a newly developed $1 menu more widely available in hopes of improving performance at the chain.” (AP)
  • Starbucks’ confusing rewards card system is expected to improve Dec. 26. The current two card programs, Starbucks Card Rewards and Starbucks Gold,  will merge after Christmas with no annual fee.  The consolidated programs will offer benefits including: a free birthday beverage when card is initially registered; perks such as free brewed refills after using the card five times; and a free tall drink with purchase of one pound of whole bean coffee. Rewards are based on the number of visits to the cafe.  So, the more you visit and use the card, the more rewards you get. (Read more: Reuters)

I wonder why Starbucks didnt sell Starbucks coffee at Subway instead of Seattles Best…which is a lower quality coffee.

Maybe because SBC tastes better than the burnt-bean brew known as Starbucks coffee.

Seattle’s Best Rocks and I was very sad when they were purchased by the evil empire that is Starbucks! But that is what pirates do they pillage and destroy. Seattle’s Best is superior in taste to Starbucks and always has been. The only time I visit a Starbucks is when someone has given me a giftcard or I am meeting someone there and they chose the venue. Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf is better than Starbucks and that is where I usually buy coffee on the rare occassion that I don’t make my own coffee at home.

Wake up people who are spending hundreds or thousands of dollars a year on take out coffee from Starbucks. You could be sending money to orphans in Africa or Asia, but you are wasting money on overpriced, burnt coffee because it has become some sort of status symbol to you. Starbucks is hurting because folks are finally waking up to their folly because of the recession. Brew your own folks. Coffee is not a status thing. Too lazy to brew your own, but willing to drive across town, wait in line and pay $4 for Starbucks. That’s not very green to waste gas and pollute the environment for coffee.
