2) Free pizza for a year: Domino’s marketing crews will be canvassing neighborhoods near Domino’s Pizza locations all week. If you find a Domino’s flier on your car windshield that has the “No. 256″ on it, you win free Domino’s pizza for a year.

3) Twitter gift card giveaway: With every 599 new  Twitter followers, Domino’s will randomly hand out gift cards.  The gift card amount will increase from $20 to $100 with every new 599 followers.

We love Domino’s! Great deals, and they are not chintzy with toppings like some of their pricy competitors. My kids are going to be happy campers!

  • Steve says:

I have a question… first, let me preface by saying that I know full well this is a fast food blog. I get it. So I’m not trying to say that no one should eat fast food, not by any stretch and I’d be lying if I said I never ate the stuff. But I am wondering if it would be a nice benefit to your readers if you added some info about making smarter choices at these fast food places. This Domino’s post and then anjolie’s comment made me think about this. I wonder if anjolie even knows how incredibly bad for you Domino’s is. Of course we’ll eat bad food sometimes, but I just wonder how often people even think about the choices they make. Pizza Hut is the worst in terms of fat and salt content, Domino’s is second worst. Papa John’s is the best of the big three delivery companies. Z Pizza is the best all around.

There’s a law in California now that these places have to make their “nutritional” content very conspicuous. I know that you Nancy are under no obligation to follow that law, you’re not a restaurant. However, I just wondered if it could be something that you incorporated into your blog. Or even an occasional feature of the blog along the lines of “In this edition of making smarter fast food choices…” Perhaps that is for a different blog, I don’t know. But since this is the place people click to for fast food news and info, and given the popularity of your blog, it seems like it could be nice fit / feature.

    Thanks

      Oh for goodness’ sake.

I really like the Fast Food Maven just as it is. It’s one of the few sites in my favorites, right next to the Wall Street Journal and Kid’s Health. So yes, I do keep track of things like that. But there are already tons of sites and columns all over the internet for finding healthy fast food. This site meets a different need: it’s the best thing going for special deals, new restaurant offerings, and reviews of places in our area. You, personally, can click and find the nutritional data on your own (or at the eatery itself), if you choose to. Or I, personally, can choose to eat the cheap pizza without looking at the facts…and atone for it later.

Every site out there doesn’t have to ’should’ all over you.

    • WOW! says:

OMG get over it. Get over yourself! In these tough times it is a little harder to eat healthy all the time. So its good to know that Dominos is having a deal because this week when i get home late and just want to relax and watch a movie i will remember that Dominos is having a deal. And there is my dinner. I think its awesome the OCR posts this stuff! Thanks ALOT!!!!

And yes Z Pizza is good but it is expensive!

    • Jam says:

Why is there always someone who thinks it’s their civic duty to police this blog. If you don’t want a pizza, don’t get one.
Maybe Steve can take his soapbox to another venue.

    • Steve, for the most part, I leave the healthy stuff to our HeallthyLiving blog. This blog covers food nutrition — from the consumer’s point of view. I typically cover nutrition issues when it deals with industry regulation.

    • Kunal says:

Steve, I love how you think! Unfortunately, look at who you’re writing to. This is a fast food blog for the Orange County Register. Naturally the people swarming to this blog are your typical lazy obese Americans who are just “too busy” to feed their kids properly. Also, its Orange County, the epitome of suburbia where fast food rules. Look at every street corner, you run across a place that actually cares about food maybe one in a million miles.
You’re doomed to die out of frustration of the ignorant Steve, get out while you can! I was in your shoes too and was going crazy until I moved to Seattle. You barely find greasy unhealthy fast food up here, almost every place actually cares about organic and healthy cooking.

      • hey now says:

lazy, obese people who swarm to this blog? Oh like you Kunal? YOu not only clicked on this blog, but you commented..oh what an active life you live!

      • christy says:

And yet you still spend your time reading a column about OC fast food restaurants.

      • Steve says:

In my shoes? I don’t hate Orange County, nor do I think it’s a suburban wasteland. I don’t know how long you’ve been gone, but perhaps you’d be rather surprised by North and West OC if you came back. Perhaps you wouldn’t, I don’t know. But I doubt you were ever in my shoes.

    • hey now says:

Steve you can be a health nut but let others enjoy what they want! Everybody knows how bad this or that is,but what do you suggest..pizza with veggies and sauce? GEt real!!!

    • Steve says:

I guess everyone must have missed the part where I said I realize this is a fast food blog and that I am not suggesting anyone tell anyone else what to eat. I was merely suggesting to Nancy (and no one else) a possible new feature of this blog — healthier choices at fast food restaurants — sorry.

    • leandro says:

Hey Steve, don’t worry about what I’m eating!!!

      • Steve says:

I’m not. No where did I tell people what to eat; not anymore than Nancy tells you where to eat with her posts. I was talking about a feature I would like to see. For myself. As a reader of this blog. I find it odd that people are having a difficult time understanding what I said (Nancy doesn’t seem to have a problem understanding, so what I’m saying must make sense on some level).

  • Eric Maddy says:

    Nancy–
According to the Dominos website, the “Extra Cheesy delivery deal” is actually carryout only.

  • mmmpizza says:

Steve, I think people are smart enough to know what is good and what is not so good for you. I don’t think its anyone’s responsibility to tell people what and what not to eat. Just let the people enjoy their treats without the guilt trip.
    Merci!

  • eviltwin says:

80 percent of Americans are obese! People, Please eat a salad instead. You are Gross to see in public !!!!!!!!!!

  • Jello Rick says:

    Aren’t we fat enough??

Go to the store spend ten bucks, feed your kids for a week.

  • JustAGuy says:

    Steve,

I appreciate that you’re trying to make a point, and if the market bears, then I suppose there could be an occasional feature to alternatives to the typical fast food fare…

…but in the end, it is the CONSUMER who must choose. This nanny-state, we have to “protect” people, kind of attitude is sad, and unnecessary. The nutritional information was always available at locations if you asked for it. If someone doesn’t know that a hamburger and fries (or pizza) every day isn’t the best for your health, then that is their OWN problem.

I know this isn’t 100% in line with your post, but I had to say that.

  • rex says:

Domino’s in Costa Mesa on Baker & Beach,
    &
Domino’s in Santa Ana on Bristol & Warner,
Are the Best of the Best. They never skimp on toppings & fast service!

  • Hungry Guy in Orange says:

“If you find a Domino’s flier on your car windshield that has the “No. 256″ on it, you win free Domino’s pizza for a year.”

I can see a band of troublemakers roving neighborhoods removing all these fliers looking for a WINNER and ruining the promo for everyone else.

Kind of sounds like a Golden Ticket in a Wonka Bar. ;)

  • mvocreader says:

Right on Eric…if you try to get this delivered with an on-line order, it will try to sell you something other than the $5.99 deal. Also, the “extra cheesy” implies a lot of cheese. Its not really double cheese like you would think. Still a good deal….but behind Little Caesars in value.

  • jonny says:

no thank you i dont want their employees putting their nasty boogers all over my pizza.

  • hey now says:

As far as pizza places, Papa Johns is king! Dominos USED to be delish, but for the past 5 years they have went down in quality. And I’m still mad at them for that pasta bowl giveaway they didn’t promote well! But 5.99 may be worth trying it again!

  • ThisIsNotAnExit says:

It’s all gross. It is all unhealthy. But I like knowing about this because I like to go at LEAST one night a week with out cooking. And some weeks I have to save a little money on our take out.

Except big macs. They are not gross. Just unhealthy.

  • Michael says:

Not to change the subject but Burger King has added Double Cheeseburgers to there 1.00 menu…..Hurray..!

  • anjolie says:

Kunal, move your lazy, obese self away from the computer and get some exercise. I run a mile everyday, so I can afford to eat a slice of pizza now and then. People are so rude -and by people, I mean YOU Kunal!

  • mvmommy says:

I don’t like Domino’s pizza so I will not take advantage of this deal.
