Sister concepts — Lucille’s Smokehouse BBQ, Hof’s Hut and the soon-to-be open Lucille’s Rib Shack — have been busy tweaking menus and getting on board the social media bandwagon.

Here’s the latest updates from all three restaurants:

Lucille’s Rib Shack

The fast-casual “mini” Lucille’s barbecue joint is slated to open Nov. 1. Construction crews are in the middle of a top-to-bottom remodel of the old Hof’s Hut building in Orange. That restaurant closed in August to make way for the Rib Shack, which will offer a limited version of the barbecue dishes found at Lucille’s.

The eatery recently launched a Facebook fan page and is taking applications for various jobs, including hostess,  cashier, expediter, wiper,  line cook,  prep cook and dishwasher.

Lucille’s Smokehouse BBQ

Three weeks ago, the popular family ‘cue chain added a Kids Eat Free night.  The deal is valid for kids 12 and under every Tuesday with the purchase of an adult entrée. Lucille’s recently launched a fan page on Facebook.

Hof’s Hut

The family dining chain added a Kids Eat Free program on Wednesdays with the purchase of an adult entrée. The deal, which launched two weeks ago,  is good for kids 10 and under.

Following the cheap fixed-priced meal trend, the chain has also added a $19.99 three-course meal for two to its menu. The bakery is now selling Red Velvet Cakes, and is offering $5 off any whole pies or cheesecakes and $10 off any whole cakes. Hoft’s Hut is also on Facebook.

Our family is done with Lucille’s. We’ve been to the Lake Forest store on several occasions. LOVE the food. LOVE the huge portions. There is plenty of pleasant staff. The problem has always been the amazingly SLOW service. From taking drink orders, to their delivery. From getting refills to waiting up to 45 minutes after ordering for our food to arrived. It has been a consistent pattern, during peak and very non-peak times.

Sorry Lucille’s. We tried several times hoping for improvement. It’s been a no go.

Hofs has the best pies ever! And the new red velvet cake! To die for! You need to swing by and try it for your self. And the dinner special! Hofs is one of the best family style restaurants in Orange County!

We have had only the best service and the best BBQ EVER at Lucilles! I have been to every single one in California! Team service is their route and again, we have had nothing but the best service. Of course the original in Long Beach Towne Center is AMAZING! Love the live music. My only disappointment is they took of the pork chops! PLEASE BRING THEM BACK! The ribs though … OMG!

The Hof’s Hut apple pie is the best! The other pies are good, too, but you can’t find a better apple pie anywhere.
