starbucks-logo.jpgA Starbucks in Garden Grove (13411 Euclid St.) will close Friday at 2 p.m., chain officials said.

The cafe is among 76 California Starbucks slated for closure this year. The Garden Grove Starbucks is among 12 cafes targeted for closure in Orange County. To date, 11 cafes have shutdown.

*(8:30 am update) A Fullerton cafe (1030 Rosecrans Ave.) is also slated to close Sept. 24. This Starbucks is not part of the original 12 cafes. However, a manager
at the cafe confirmed Monday that the location will close later this month. Employees have been transferred to other cafes, she said.

Over two years, Starbucks has targeted 22 under performing cafes for closure in Orange County. Most have closed. The Garden Grove cafe will shutdown Sept. 18 at 2 p.m.

  • Everett says:

This is ridiculous. They should’nt have been allowed by the government to buy out their main competitor in Orange County, Diedrichs. They simply converted all these locations to Starbucks, and then couldnt support all the financial losses in the economic downturn, so now alot of coffee lovers have to drive alot further to get a decent cup of joe. This whole thing was a lose-lose for everyone!

    • Seriously? says:

Everett: Are you serious? You really think the government should have been involved in the Diedrichs buy out? Seriously? What exact part of government? Which branch? Please give details, I am very curious about this!

I love the part about :
“…..alot of coffee lovers have to drive alot further to get a decent cup of joe…”
      That is a real hoot.

  • Goat says:

Not too surprised about Starbucks closing. People finally realized that its crazy to pay $5 for a cup of coffee.,especially when you dont have a job or your house is worth half of what it once was worth.

THats not to say Starbucks made bad coffee.

    • Sparkles says:

Haven’t you heard? Supposedly people are receiving multiple cash offers on their listings. And, it looks like were down to just a couple of weeks inventory on listed houses.

According to national and California Realtors (Capital “R” and copyright, of course), Starbucks should be opening dozens more stores, not closing.

      • javi says:

they are, its just under the seattles best coffee name. they are also coming out with a 3rd brand. it is called 15th Avenue Coffee and Tea. based of a seattle street. something like that

    • Coffe Fan says:

      Goat -

For crying out loud, either get your facts straight or label your posts as pure bias!

The only way one will pay “$5 for a cup of coffee” at Starbucks is if they buy the large “box” of coffee to go… that’s more like 15-20 cups of coffee.

A tall coffee at Starbucks is $1.60 while a cup of “sock water” at some local coffee shops is now over $2.00.

Yes, you can get an expensive “coffee drink” at Starbucks, but let’s call a cup of coffee a cup of coffee.

Oh yea, if you don’t like Starbucks coffee, don’t go!

    • Steve says:

Starbucks does not sell a $5 cup of coffee.

    • Jen75 says:

It’s not $5 for a cup of coffee, it’s $2. What costs $5 dollars are those stupid drinks that people call “coffee”.

  • Barista101 says:

    Starbucks makes good coffee.
And, Zagat did rate us best coffee/ coffee beans, out of all the coffee.

And you get what you pay for at Starbucks.
You can pay 1.60 for a cup of coffee and it will taste delicious and flavorful, and fresh. Whereas, you can go to 7-11, pay 99 cents for three hour old coffee with no flavor.

    • fullertonsucks says:

Barista101…coming from a non-biased source like yourself, sure, ok. Starbucks was good when it first came to the area. But it expanded too fast and the quality went down the drain. Your $1.60 cup of coffee is awful. Tasteful and delicious it’s not. It’s more like bland office coffee that anyone can make for much cheaper. Don’t waste your money folks. I’ll change my mind if you bring back the old format where we get French Roast and Summatra on different days. As you can tell, I haven’t been to a Starbuck in a while.

  • logicinoc says:

Starbucks coffee is $1.60, same as most places.

What does the value of your house have to do with anything?
How has your cost of living or purchasing power changed?

    You gotta live somewhere regardless.

    Can’t stand tangential logic!

  • Ryan Yang says:

Unfortunately, it took this Great Recession for people to realize $4-$5 per cup of specialty coffee wasn’t worth that much. Now it’s going to cost those baristas their jobs from the boom days…

  • javi says:

dont worry about the ones they close down, soon they will open it as seattle’s best coffee. thats what they did in rancho cucamonga.

  • jpmuley says:

Great there coffee sucks any way to strong….7/11 or circle K have the best anyway..close all of them $4.00 dollars a cup for mud…

    • mvmommy says:

Read the above posts regarding $4 - $5 for a cup of coffee. I’m willing to bet that you load up your 7/11 coffee with sugar and/or creamer, whereas you are not drinking coffee.
And at least make an effort to proof read your posts so people wont get the wrong idea about you - first impressions mean a lot, especially on a blog!

      • jpmuley says:

Sorry your wrong.there coffee sucks black as mud taste burnt.even milk wont change the color like i said 7-11 or circle k is better get a 24 oz for $1:09 or $1.19 anyone who thinks starbuks is the best needs to get out of there BMW or Benz and try the real world coffee.and save some coin oh by the way i like mine with only lite cream for you info no sugar. enjoy your over priced mud water mud

    • Jen75 says:

You shouldn’t be allowed to post anything. That made NO sense.

  • Alex A. says:

Damn, Now I have to drive another block or 2 for my coffee. Damn.

  • John S. says:

I am surprised the Euclid one is closing. I go by there everyday and it is always busy.

  • Johnb says:

I hope they don’t close the one in the Circle in Orange, near Felix’s, that’s the one I go to.

    • DanGarion says:

Because then you’d have to walk all the way around the circle to the one in the bank? :) Just kidding with you, I hope they don’t close that one either, When it was a Dietrich’s I met my wife there for the first time. we even got our wedding pictures taken out front at the same table we first met at.

  • Tony says:

Starbucks is the best place ever. I hate their coffee, but I love to get an iced tea and a scone, and spend an hour or two getting work done on my laptop. It’s such a comfortable place to hang out. They even allow non customers to use their restrooms without giving them dirty looks. The price we pay at Starbucks is not just about the beverage, it’s about the overall experience. Just my opinion, but when I want a good cup of coffee I go to Mc Donalds or Dennys.

  • ErikaP says:

The last time I bought a venti for my sister, the price was just under $2.

  • Patriot says:

Where can a guy go to get a simple black cup of coffee anymore beside a 7 11?

    • Steve says:

Seriously? Or are you being sarcastic? Because you can stand just about anywhere in this county and find dozens of places to buy a simple cup of black coffee within a two block radius of where you’re standing.

  • Judith says:

I, for one, always liked Dietrich’s better!!
