There are a ton of Father’s Day freebies going on out there, but this one deserves a major high-five!
My fave gourmet burger joint, The Counter, is offering dad a free burger on Sunday — dubbed “Burger For Dad” day. All you have to do is say “I want the BFD!” and you get a 1/3-pound burger, the chic burger chain says.
Rules: Offer is limited to one burger per father who brings in a paying family member/child and purchases a burger of equal or greater value. The BFD deal is available at locations in Santa Monica, El Segundo, West Lake, Irvine, Studio City and Marina del Ray.
Don’t know about The Counter? The Los Angeles-based chain is a “build-your-own” burger concept — claiming to offer more than 300,000 meal combinations. Diners get a clipboard to check off choices: meat/protein (turkey, veggie, beef), 10 cheeses, 28 toppings, 18 sauces and three types of buns.

The Counter in Irvine is at the Woodbury Town Center, 6416 Irvine Blvd.

Sure wish my burger-lovin’ dad lived here, Nancy, ’cause he could have the beef and I’d take a veggie version … nice deal!
Nancy, can a wife bring in the husband? I wouldn’t mind having my wife pay for dinner since my kids aren’t in town!
Not sure..I’ll find out.
If those posters who said that Red Robin was too expensive, don’t EVEN think about going to The Counter.
Great another line to stand in (only kidding! Hey No Cutzieees!)
I took my dad here on Sunday. I’ve wanted to try this place since you first spoke about it and this was a perfect opportunity.
I have to say, it was one of the best burgers I think I’ve ever had. I’ve studied the menu but still it took me forever to decide on what I wanted.
We started with the trio sampler which was onion straws, fries & sweet potatoe fries (amazing!) then I had a burger on a wheat bun with swiss cheese, dried cranberries, hard boiled eggs, bacon & grilled onion. I know it’s weird but it all went together.
My step mom had the turkey patty with the goat cheese, green onions, the roasted chillies and the onion marmalade.
My sister went plain and just got a burger with the cheddar cheese, mushrooms & red onions.
My dad had a burger with olives, cheese, hard boiled egg (and I can’t remember what else).
Either way, I will definitely go there again!
oh…and we only waited like 5 minutes for a table!
k k…one last thing…the pricing for the quality was pretty good: 4 alcoholic drinks, a soft drink, the BFD, the sampler & the 4 burgers was 60$
