4 pm update includes extra stop tonight in Fullerton
——————-
kogi-tacosI guess Kogi Korean BBQ finally got enough gas money to send one of its Los Angeles taco trucks to Orange County on a regular basis.

After spontaneously heading to Buena Park at least once last month, Kogi has now announced plans to hit two Orange County cities later this week. ( 4 pm update: The truck will also be in Fullerton 7PM-10PM@2 J’s Cocktail Lounge - 120 W Houston Ave in Fullerton. )

The truck, which sells Korean BBQ-inspired soft tacos and burritos, will be in Anaheim on Thursday night, and in Old Towne Orange on Saturday night, according to Kogi’s website.  See excerpt from Kogi’s blog below:

“As you may of heard, OC, we are coming for youse!!!  This week we shaLL be hitting up Anaheim, Santa Fe Springs/La Mirada and the city of Naranja.  (I think that’s ALbanian for “Orange.”) It’s a lot of extra gas, time and effort on our trucks and supporting staff, so hopefuLLy our So-So CaL peopLe were right about Orange County.”

Thursday: 9:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.@Juke Joint - 735 N. Anaheim Blvd., Anaheim

    Nancy,
I see you keep posting about this roach coach alot…what’s the big deal? I could step outside my office right now and have a taco at a similar one? Why not have roach coach challenge? or have you review the one that stops by the OCR every morning?

    • The hype here was created by L.A. food bloggers, NPR and New York Times — all of which have been writing about Kogi for several months. Whether you like their Korean/Mexican fusion grub or not, you have to give them kudos for a brilliant guerrilla marketing campaign custom-made for the 21st century. Every stop they make is posted on the Kogi blog, and Twitter page. I wish other cool O.C. taco trucks would do the same.

Just had Kogi BBQ last Saturday 5/9 for the first time at the Stage Road/Valley View location at the Santa Fe Springs/La Mirada border. Tried the pork, beef, and chicken tacos as well as a few bites of their spicy pork burrito. All were extremely delicious! We’re gonna go again tonight in Fullerton @ 2 J’s off Houston/Harbor Blvd :-)

  • Christian says:

I haven’t eaten at Kogi yet but there is a HUGE hype surrounding them. It may just be something for people to talk about or it may actually be really good. I may or may not find out on Thursday.

  • sipote says:

    Nancy,
Did you see this coupon for 2 pieces of KGC?

    http://www.unthinkfc.com/

    War is still going on…

  • kevin says:

More taco trucks in the OC??? We’ll need to eliminate a few so Kogi can come in…

  • daryl says:

Wow!!! korean tacos!! What`s next? Mexican sushi?

  • Tim says:

Korean tacos. Now that is some real Seoul food.

  • over hyped says:

I have tried Kogi’s tacos and they were not worth the drive or the time spent waiting in line. Talk about over hyped. Their marketing campaign has been impressive however. Anyway just one man’s opinion. Feel free to try it out and form your own opinion.

  • Christian says:

The KGC link worked for me.

    • Christian, the linked worked for me too, but were you able to download, and print?

      • sipote says:

not me…tried when i first posted the link and nothing…next time the print icon came up but it never printed…talk about unprepared…let’s see…we’ll advertise on a small show called Oprah…and have enough bandwidth to accommodate them…not worth it…plus their ads during the TNT playoff games are annoying!

  • Alex says:

Kogi’s BBQ Truck will actually be hitting OC sooner than you think. They will be at 2J’s in Fullerton tonight from 7m-10pm! Check them out at http://www.kogibbq.comm

  • Fork N Knives says:

Damn, I will be working those nights. Well I always work but either way come to West Side Costa Mesa!!

  • mike says:

they ARE good, but the wait is too long. over-hyped? yes, but if *everyone* is talking about them the bar is set higher. they aren’t the best thing ever, but they are really good. the only thing is that the wait kills it. if you haven’t tried it before and really want to and you’re close by, bring some friends and something to do, and it’s not too bad. i don’t recommend the wait for anyone that’s had it before, as i’m sure the wait will be ridiculous.

  • ocbrody says:

They’re going to be in Fullerton tonight.

  • Reverend Steve says:

This would never be cinsidered a good thing 20 years ago. Any city in Orange County would have run them off. What happened to my great Orange County

    • Bazily says:

How does Kogi meet restaurant inspection standards in multiple cities/counties? Business licenses? Permits for selling on the street? Sales tax?

I think that’s more interesting than the food!

  • Mexikorea90621 says:

Kogi is terrific! Very tasty. Actually, Korean and Mexican flavors have a lot in common and fuse verrrry nicely. Kogi belongs in Buena Park permanently!!

  • PC says:

Do the local cities receive any tax revune from Kogi’s sales in thier city? Probably not. Looks like unfair competition for the local businesses who pay rent, taxes and support our communities seven day each week. Ban the carpet baggers!!!

  • PBateman says:

    Don’t drink the Kool-Aid…

  • ocbrody says:

Looks like Kogi better stick to twittering their next OC stops so the angry comment crew from here won’t know where to show up with their pitchforks and burning torches.

  • Johnny Ringo says:

LA Weekly gave them kudos followed by sister paper OC Weekly.

Gotta love Jonathan Gold at LA Weekly and his Pulitzer.

  • Johnny Ringo says:

all before the Food Maven. WAY…………… Before.

  • Hungry Guy in Orange says:

Had a friend drive by the Orange location tonight at 10pm and he saw at least 200 people in line from the muffler shop next door, past Omega Burger, and then another block or so past the auto repair shops on Lemon. Simply amazing…you’d think everyone was in line to see a ROCK STAR. He will try and come back at midnight to see if the line has gone down. With Chapman University so close by and the residence halls across the way I think Kogi needs THREE trucks here. Sure hope this paid for your gas tonight. ;)
