Frosted Cupcakery cupcakes.

Frosted Cupcakery, an extremely popular Long Beach cupcake shop, has finally landed in Orange County.

But don’t go looking for a Frosted Cupcakery marquee. Instead, the Belmont Shore bakery –  co-owned by Huntington Beach resident Nancy Hanley and her daughter, Stacia — has partnered with Quinn’s Ice Cream & Sweets in Los Alamitos.

Quinn’s, which opened in March, is selling a variety of Frosted Cupcakery’s signature treats, including red velvet, vanilla and chocolate cupcakes.

Quinn’s gets a fresh batch of Frosted Cupcakery cupcakes daily. Linda Shay, co-founder of Quinn’s, said O.C.  fans of Frosted Cupcakery are thrilled to get their fix at her shop.

Be warned: The $2.95 treats sell out quickly, Shay said.

Gourmet cupcakes aren’t the only thing Quinn’s has to offer. Shay’s store sells premium Fosselman’s ice cream,  a variety of candies and chocolates and gourmet rice crispy treats dubbed Krispy Dips.

Quinn’s is at 10670 Los Alamitos Boulevard, near Ganahl Lumber. (The shop does not have a website, yet.) Hours:  11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Phone 562-493-1812.

quinns_logoMy take: I haven’t been to Quinn’s yet, but I’m going to make the trek because I love the Frosted Cupcakery’s red velvets. FC’s cream cheese frosting gives Sprinkles Cupcakes a run for its money.

Tell us: Does Quinn’s sound like a fun place to satisfy your sweet tooth. Has anyone ever tried Fosselman’s ice cream?

Baskin-Robbins freebie alert: Don’t forget: On April 29, Baskin-Robbins will offer customers a 2.5 ounce scoop of ice cream for 31 cents. Deal good from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.  Store locations.

$2.95 for ONE cupcake? Someone should tell these people we are in a recession…

  • GO DUCKS says:

I think I will check this place out. Much more convenient than driving to Belmont Shore for me. My favorite Frosted flavors are the chocolate mint and the lemon- I wonder if Quinn’s will carry those, sounds like they are sticking to the basics.

    • Goducks: I don’t they they sell the lemon, or my personal fave, the Orange cupcake. However, I think Linda Shay told me they were selling choc/choc mint and a coconut flavor, too.

      • GO DUCKS says:

I went to Quinn’s and thought it was a good shop. They have an interesting variety of candies including both retro/ nostalgic items, mainstream items, and some gourmet/ foodie type things. It wasn’t a gigantic store but they seemed to have carefully picked out what they wanted to offer. I got a cupcake (lemon!)and a caramel marshmallow (made by Vosges I think- one of my favorites) Didn’t try the ice cream but that’s what most people were buying when I was there.

    • Dean says:

They do carry chocolate mint and lemon. They switch up different kinds every week.

  • mvmommy says:

I really don’t like spending $3 -5 on a cupcake, and driving all the way to Los Alamitos just isn’t worth it. But if I just have to have it, I’d rather drive up to South Coast Plaza and get some Mrs Beasleys Lemon anything - yummmmmm. But then again, I probably will just stay at home and make some, thereby saving money and gas. :)

  • Rob says:

$3 for one cupcake? I don’t get it either. How much did it cost to make that one cupcake? 12 cents?

The only place worth driving to is Diddy Reese (sp?) in Westwood for the ice cream cookie!

  • Chanclas says:

U.S should go on a Diet instead of eating 3 dollar cupcakes

  • Angler says:

Hurry! 15 minutes goes by quick.

  • OCyelper says:

Uhm, when I get a cupcake its a treat, its not an everyday thing like a Starbucks addiction. HELLO - not everyone is in a recession - we do after all live in the OC. I went to an Angel game yesterday and there were close to 45,000 people in attendance. The lines at the concession stands were at least 15 minute wait times, the beer line double that. I went to SCP and the parking lot was full as were the stores.
I enjoy eating a $3 cupcake every once in a while - that doesn’t make or break my bank.
I prefer Sprinkles over Frosted Cupcakery myself but will have to check out this Quinn Candy Shop place and YELP.

    • Robb Rey says:

I agree… I waited a half hour outside nordstrom waiting for a private shopping party and it was packed…standing room only! We need stop spreading the fear and realize we are a lot safer financially here!!!

      • John Curtis says:

Yuppie consumption at it’s worst. ANYONE, can make a cupcake. Plus, you have the pride of knowing how well and safely it was made.

    • NIck says:

Finally! Thanks for reiterating what I’ve been saying for some time too. The majority of us aren’t in a recession. Even with with unemployment and perhaps underemployment at 20%, that leaves the vast majority of us employed (80%). I get so sick of hearing every news story being related back to the recession.

I was out and about yesterday as well and every place I went was packed.

      • p-dubb says:

Nick, I hope that you don’t ever experience the joy of being laid off. Watch what you say…buddy.

        • NIck says:

I’ve experienced it before. It sucks. But what you are doing is assuming everyone is in the same boat as you. It’s not like me empathizing with laid off workers (which I do by the way) is going to make something false, true. The reality is, as Robb Rey stated, the majority of us aren’t feeling the affects of the recession. Every time I or someone else makes that statement you try and correct us. However, you’ve yet to provide any facts that state that the majority of OC residents have been affected by the recession. Anecdotes and media hype are not facts by the way.

  • Got to say it says:

Call me cheap or whatever but I too think paying 3 dollars for a cupcake is absurd!! But since I have a massive sweet tooth and love baked things,I tried sprinkles when it was all the rage. Well the majority of their cupcakes aren’t worth 3 dollars, but the specialty ones-like peanut butter chocolate- were pretty damn good! I don’t know why but I’m always disappointed with(maybe the price/it isn’t moist enough for my liking, I don’t know) these places. Usually these shops have the same offerings that Pilsbury,Duncan Hines,Moist Deluxe or any store brand can offer for the cost of frosting and cake mix combined!

  • Dean says:

The recession must not be to bad, this place almost sells out of these cupcakes almost daily.

  • p-dubb says:

The bottom line is that we are americans. And americans don’t know how to save. That’s why we are in this financial situation. We’ll spend money carelessly on stupid stuff or put it on our credit cards and worry about it later.

  • Robb Rey says:

I think it is sad that we are consumed already by higher taxes because people who couldn’t afford to live here to begin with bought homes they couldn’t afford and not only here but all around the U.S. And then expect people like us who have restrained when neccessary to be consumed by guilt for buying a 3 dollar cup cake….and to be clear I am credit card debt free and push nothing to the side to worry about later. That’s the kind of thinking that got us in this mess to begin with. OC register like all media sources focuses on the drama and not the facts. I am so tired of spin

  • Rob says:

    Nick-
Again it’s wonderful you are not affected by, and yes I am going to say it, this recession. There is NO other reason why stores are closing, restaurants are cutting prices or closing, Pontiac shutting down and GM and the big three cutting jobs and closing down this summer production for TWO months. That’s great SCP is filled with wealthy women spending their cash, but when is the last time you have driven by places like Tustin Market Place? Drive by and see the couple of people standing on the corner with STORE CLOSING signs. Sears shutting down. Chick’s Sporting Goods shutting down. Mervyns gone. Starbucks closing. Not everyone is hit by the recession, however MANY are, and the result are places where money is spent close down. If you can tell us all the real reason why places are shutting down we all would love to know.
And regarding Angels games Yelper…Are you aware opening week the staduim was not filled so the Angels sold tickets for $3 for 3 days during openiing week. I wonder why???????
And seriously, a $3 cupcake? So If I open a place that sells cupcakes for $1.50 will I survive? Or shall I one up them and sell $5 cupcakes? hmmm

    • Nick says:

All I’m saying is that the media and a lot of people in the general public need to keep it in perspective. Right now, the perspective is that it’s affecting 100% of the people 100% of the time.

As for your list. Yes it’s true that stores are closing due to the recession. However, not all of them, as you stated. First off, Chick’s is closing. It’s being converted to a Dick’s sporting goods. Second, if you do some research you’d see that the Irvine Company is very difficult to deal with in their lease negotiations (I’m not just talking about lowering prices) and so some stores (not all) have elected to relocate to other locations. A similar thing is happening at another Irvine Company owned property, The Spectrum. So, what I’m saying is that there needs to be perspective. Right now, you’ve got none other than the perspective is that everyone is affected and that’s the sole reason stores are closing. Not true. And like Robb Rey says, I’m not about to feel guilty or go along with your perspective on this. I am much more pragmatic and realistic.

  • carrie says:

this is very exciting news! i tried frost cupcakes several weeks ago for the first time …and truly love their strawberry cupcakes! i will visit quinn’s for a frost cupcake fix since. thanks for the update nancy!

  • Rob says:

Nick- What do you do? You seem to post all day long? The economy is wonderful for you so what is it that you do that allows you to be on the OCR website all day?

And yes, Chick’s IS closing. Dicks Sporting Goods is taking over. Why are Starbucks closing? Has nothing to do with leases. People are realizing $3 is a lot for coffee when that money needs to go to more important things. Why did Mervyns close? Sears? Not a lease problem, Nick. Why is GM shutting down a major line of automobiles? People are’t buying big ticket items. Why is almost every headline to the right on Nancy’s page about either a free chicken deal or 3 Mexican restaurants in fear of closing down? Why were the lines UNBELIEVABLE for a free piece of chicken????? Again, 100% of us are not hit by this, but many, many are, including me who is in the real estate business and when homes don’t sell we get hit hard. And it’s a snowball effect….so have some sympathy for those who have to watch their money at this time. You may be doing great, but there are those who aren’t. And a major thank you to Nancy for posting all the great deals for those who are looking for good deals at this time.

    • Nick says:

I once was a construction worker, then in the early 2000s when everyone else was gaga over .coms I got laid off. Instead of wallowing, I started my own construction business. And I’m glad I did because I realized that I am very good at running the business. And I grew my business through the 5 years that I owned it and sold it to a large L.A. based construction company two years ago.

Now I’m semi-retired I guess (I do high-end custom jobs for select clients a few times a year). Otherwise I volunteer my time tutoring kids and also as a volunteer firefighter.

    • Thanks Rob. I like a good deal, myself. Although, as the economy improves, consumers need to be aware that those great specials and two-for-one deals will go away.

  • Rachel says:

Hmm, if she is a Huntington Beach resident, then why not downtown HB next? The Strand is still leasing, and there are no other bakery type treat places down there. We have a ton of ice cream, yogurt, and soon gelato, but no cupcakes. In fact tourists visiting the shop I work at often ask about a bakery (Not to mention a flower shop if anyone wants to open one of those). Just a thought…

  • Nick says:

I don’t think anyone here is trying to deny that there’s a recession. Just like it’s true that there are thousands of visitors to your blog, Handling Hard Time, it’s also true that there are thousands of people cramming South Coast Plaza, as well as enough people buying $3 cupcakes that there are several cupcake stores in the OC area and as noted, many sell out by the end of the day.

To me it’s all about perspective. And lately I think the media have lost some of that perspective.

  • Dean C says:

    Hi Nancy,

Quinn’s now has a website, quinnssweets.com and they have changed their hours to 10:30 am till 9:00pm Tues-Sun and 11:00am till 8:30pm on Monday.

  • Kathy says:

How about “any idiot” or “any home cook” or “any one”…..please NOT any “‘tard’”. It’s VERY offensive.

  • Awesome, thanks for the update….
