Today, Jack in the Box (JACK) launched its new Mini Sirloin Burgers.

As previously reported on the Maven blog, the pint-size burgers made their debut several months ago in the San Diego region.  Today, the trio of all-sirloin patties debuts nationwide after a successful pilot program. Each burger is topped with American cheese, grilled onions, ketchup and served on small, bakery-style roll. Cost: $3.89 (CLICK HERE for $1 off coupon)

Tell us: I’m going to pick some burgers up later today to try.  Have you had them already? If so, write in and let us know what you think.

I’ve actually had them at a Jack in the Box in Anaheim. The burgers were very tasty indeed. It’s great for a snack between meals. I would eat these burgers before most of the other burgers at Jack.

Just finished my order from a Jack in Orange.
I got just the burgers (and my usual 2 tacos).

I really liked them. I’m pretty particular about my sliders: I don’t like Krystal’s burgers (get the chiks); but I love White Castle.

    Anyway, here’s my breakdown:

Appearance: They looked good. The bun was the right size compared to the patty. The burgers in total looked like it was freshly made. They weren’t too small, although I wish they were a little larger.

Touch: The bun was warm and soft - and I had to drive 15 minutes back to my office.

Smell: The smell of sirloin burger filled my car and I didn’t even open the bag. You can tell Jack put a ‘lil something extra in terms of seasoning in these patties.

Taste: The first bite was awesome. As I noted earlier, the bun was just the right size and that came through when eating. It was just the right mix of bun, meat, cheese and onion.
The only negative was that there was a crunch in each burger that I thought was a burnt onion, but realized was pepper in the meat. I didn’t mind that too much because I’ll take favor over bland patties anytime.

I looked on the box and saw that you can get them with bacon and I wish they advertised it on the order board. The only thing I didn’t like was the price: $3.99 for just the burgers and $5.99 for the small combo is a little pricey.

The burgers are a great item, but because of the price, I would list this as more of a treat than my first choice for a late-night snack.

Yes! Very good! Would definitely get them again. The grilled onions are a nice touch.

  • Thanks Eugene for the thorough review! I grabbed a trio on my way home tonight, and feel the same way as you: good, but a bit too pricey. The sirloin was beefy, and not too thin. It definitely tasted better than the BK shots, and the plain-Jane Johnny Rockets sliders.

I drove past two Jacks that had it a few hours ago and wanted to stop in one and try them but circumstances weren’t allowing it. Might go get some tonight though.

  • Christian says:

Ended up getting some. They are the last three items in this photo album:

Went through the drive-thru and got them and the guy asked if I wanted bacon on them. Said I think I will try that the next time. As I drove home the aroma coming from the bag made it hard to wait to be able to finally eat them. They were $3.99 at the one I went to.

  • Ron says:

Four bucks isn’t exactly a high price, but in the run of fast food dollar menus, it is. Gimme a coupon and we’ll talk…

Question to Nancy or anyone: is the cheese REAL cheese or cheese food/cheese product? It makes a BIG differene in taste, which is why I do not get cheese on my burgers at most fast food joints. Thanks!

  • VicandLisa says:

Tried these in Alhambra over the weekend and I must say, for a person who isn’t normally a Jack in the Box fan (starving and it was the only thing nearby I could drive through), I thought they were delicious. Had my dog in the car with me and the smell of them made him crazy! The mini-buns were lightly toasted, the burgers were meaty and juicy, and although I’m not sure if it was real cheese or what kind it was supposed to be, they were actually quite tasty and I would definitely get them again. Liked the grilled onions (and not those little, teensy ones like McD’s) - nice touch. $3.99 for just the burgers alone isn’t so bad - being just over $1.30 each didn’t seem too pricey. I had the burgers as a meal (sans fries) and was quite satisfied! Recommend people check them out!

Eugene W. Fields…please dont compare to White Castle, these are not even close or the same type of burger. I tried the JB mininsirloin burgers and found them quite tasty however at 3.99 a little on the pricy side for this econmy. Comparing these to White Castle is like comparing Kentucky Bourbon to Gin.

  • Thanks Kristin , for the link….and for the other cheese ?? : The chain says it’s real American cheese…My cheese was melted so it seemed a bit saucy…

  • chrystal clay says:

I’m not a Jack fan, but I am always willing to try something new. The mini sirloins were just OK to me. The bun on one was hard and the burgers did not seem to be freshly prepared like Jack is supposed to be known for. I won’t be going back for seconds.

Big Jack fan and tried these in san diego when they were testing them out. They were tasty but too expensive in my opinion. They have a couple of coupons though if someone would like to try them. http://www.jackinthebox.com/coupon/msb2/ for free churros
    or
http://www.jackinthebox.com/coupon/msb1/ for dollar off . Not a slider fan really but these are tasty. BTW I’ve tried white castle and their sliders suck! They’re like mini mcdonald’s burgers. Disgusting!

  • Mike says:

I just tried the mini burgers for the first time, last night. Overall, they were pretty good. The portion was about right and the flavor was not bad. I’ve heard that a lot of fast food chains are testing sliders. In my opinion, Burger King has the best. Their meat tastes so good that you don’t even need the cheese that they offer. I always have cheese on a burger and when I forgot to order it, I was reluctant but hungry. It was still a home run! Sorry Jack!

  • Snuggle says:

These burgers are really good and they are made with the beef of mini cattle!

  • Scott D. says:

3.99……are you kidding. Rip-off.!!!! Taste pretty good but that will be the last time. I would have a hard time spending over 3.00. Good price point should be about 2.50. Felt like i got ripped off.

  • Tammy says:

They are a really good little treat when you don’t want to eat the calories in a big burger. There are three of us so the trio is perfect to share. They are way better than those BK burger shots. The meat is way better and thicker patty than other small burgers.
