Update 5 p.m. 3/17 w/new comments on taco upgrade
Starting today, Del Taco is offering a beefier Taco Tuesday option.
As you know, the Lake Forest-based chain offers three regular tacos for $1.09 from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. every Tuesday. Now Del Taco is offering an upgrade — where you pay $2.09 for three Classic Tacos. The Classic Tacos offer twice the beef, cheese and tomatoes than a regular taco.
Del Taco, which recently lost its top marketing executive, also has a new snack item: Del Nachos. The new menu dish features chips topped with beans, nacho cheese and red sauce. Cost: $1.39. (Sounds a lot Taco Bell’s 79-cent, Value Menu nachos.)
Speaking of Taco Bell, the Irvine-chain has added two new nachos to its menu: Besides the Triple Layer Nachos (79 cents), the chain has added a 89-cent Beefy 5-Layer Nachos and a 99-cent 7-Layer Dip Nachos.
Tell us: Will you take advantage of Del Taco’s new, beefier Taco Tuesday deal? Also, seems like a nachos battle is brewing between Del Taco and Taco Bell. Who sells the tastier nachos? (Read my previous review of both nachos here.)
5 p.m. 3/17 UPDATE: Just got back from to DT to order my upgraded tacos, and came home to find this? (photo, above). I stripped away the lettuce, cheese and tomatoes (I counted five diced tomatoes) so you could see portioning. This can’t be double the meat? I was charged $2.07 for the Classic Taco special, so I know I ordered it right. Hmm. Disappointing.

A dollar more?!
Nope, I rather get six regular tacos for $2 something than just three of them.
But the classic taco is sooooo GOOD!!!
!Yo quero mas tacos! I take bac home to Mexico n cell fur mucho dinero! Gracias, America! My familia en Mexico tenga mucho mas dinero.
Si! Si!
This $2.09 Classic Taco Tuesday deal has been around for a while but not many people knew about it. Thanks for the link.
Nope - don’t like Del Taco meat; like their fish tacos and LOVE their fries.
Del Taco’s Chili Cheese Fries FTW
Christian..I asked Del Taco about this yesterday, after seeing your blog. The company told me that the “upgrade” has been in test and is
now system-wide starting today. You must have noticed it at test stores.
Yeah, I live near a couple Del Taco test restaurants and really close to a Taco Bell test restaurant. I don’t always know if things they have there are test items or not.
Taco Bells Nachos are much better because of the freshness of their chips.
Beyond that I would rather pay .79 for a tastier product then Del Tacos 1.39 which were just ok in my opinion.
I always get my tacos without lettuce that way get more cheese or the fact that it doesn’t all fall out. Lettuce is such a waste on tacos.
more meat-more tomato more nothing-who are you kidding-eat at home -taste better-less $$$$ - more of it & without the arm hair
I would if we lived near a Del Taco; they could use a location in RSM. As a poster mentioned, their fish tacos are good. Rubio’s fish tacos are also good, so I usually take advantage of their Taco Tuesday deal.
Just got back from grabbing some nachos at both places. As I suspected, Taco Bell’s was better because the chips are much more crispier. Del Taco’s chips are always stale. Still ,both places messed up my order, big time. I ordered the new Classic Taco ..upgrade, and when I got home, I got these tiny tacos with barely any meat in it. (See photo insert in post.) I’m sure someone just gave me the regular tacos.
Just about everytime i go to get the taco tuesday deal, there is very little meat and cheese in it. and i order my tacos without lettuce. knowing this, i end up getting 6 crunchy tacos and 6 soft. I would rather spend the $4.50 that way so at least when i get home i know i didnt get ripped off for even more cash.
yeah…see…not worth it.
Yeah, those sure are regular tacos. I’ve also been buying the 3 classic Del Tacos for $2 for a few weeks now. Lots of meat and decent portion vs. the regular tacos. I also like the chopped tomatoes in the classic tacos.
The :classic: taco has never lived up to its claim of “double meat”, In theory, it sounds good, but the only real difference seems to be a teaspoon of diced tomatoes. maybe a smidge more taco meat, and a yellow wrapper.
The 2.09 deal has been in the Coachella Valley for over a month. I did it once, but now I am back to just buying 6 regular tacos for 2,18,
“The :classic: taco has never lived up to its claim of ‘double meat’”
When I had it before my taco shell was bulging with meat and cheese.
I think that’s your problem, you live in the boonies, haha. Del Taco HQ is here in OC, so quality control is heightened. Double the meat!
I guess Irvine is the boonies.
The heck with Del Taco or Taco Bell on taco tues. The place to be is “On The Border” from 3pm on. The tacos are .99 cents or maybe $1.00 but they are BIG and you have your choice of beef, carnitas or chicken. Corn or flower shells, soft or hard shells. They come with lettuce, cheese and tomatoes. You also get chips and salsa. By far the best deal around for what you get. You can find me there every tues. late afternoon like clockwork.
P.S. Even including some sort of tip, it’s well worth it. (as I’m sure some of you El Cheapo’s will chime in on the tip increasing the per taco price.)
I wish there food looked as like the pictures.
Appears I was tricked into ordering these just like you Nancy!
