Finally - a $2.99 value deal at Jack in the Box

December 29th, 2008, 10:57 am · 40 Comments · posted by Nancy Luna, Staff Writer

Jack in the  Box is finally doing something it should have done a year ago: offering a big value deal. Today, the San Diego chain announced that participating restaurants are offering a  $2.99 Jumbo Deal.

The value meal features a  Jumbo Jack hamburger, two tacos and a small order of natural cut fries.

“We created the $2.99 Jumbo Deal so our guests could enjoy some of our most popular menu items at
a very affordable price,” the chain said.

Sounds like a great deal to me. What do you think?

As a fan of Mr. Box,

I’m gonna be breaking my diet for this

  • A V Rabinowitz says:

This new Jumbo Deal is….JACKED in calories and fat and you even get trans fat thrown in for free! Deal does not include a beverage…what that’s all about?

    WOW!

Add all of the items up, and here’s where you stand on the calorie, fat, cholesterol and sodium scale:

    Total calories: 1260
    Calories from fat: 510
    Fat: 68 grams
    Saturated Fat: 22 grams
    Trans Fat: 8.5 grams
    Cholesterol: 60 milligrams
    Sodium: 2100 milligrams

Note: The Jumbo Deal does not include cheese on the Jumbo Jack, which is additional cost, and saves you on the calorie and fat count.

My hunch is that those ordering the Jumbo Deal are:
    1) Seeking extreme value in these troubled times.
    2) Have no need to be concerned with the number of calories or grams of fat(s) as part of their daily nutrition.
    3) Have their cardiologist, his spouse and childrens’ cell phone numbers programmed into their contacts (just in case the doc’s busy, you call the doc’s kids cell for help).
    4) No, or very small co-pay for major hospitalization expenses
    5) This is considered a “healthy and nutritious” meal.

I think I’ll stick with the asian grilled chicken salad while watching Jack TV.

Is this a “limited time” offer? LOL

  • Cally says:

I like it, finally (when I decide to let myself be bad) I can get a deal WITHOUT having it include a soft drink I rarely want.
I always get stuck with an OVERSIZED drink I never even come close finishing, this way I can choose whether to buy a small drink or not get one at all.

  • Gino says:

but you still gotta pay $1.50+ for a drink.

cut the b.s., and go to BK for a value meal.

  • Gino, why not go through the drive-through and take it home, where you have water or soda?

  • Stephen says:

With a name like Gino, do youreally think he goes to a grocery store?

  • Jo says:

take the meal home and have it with beer.

  • ThisIsNotAnExit says:

My boyfriend and I usually share the extra large drinks. So this value meal works for us!

  • jim says:

The more important question is are these workers legal and to they have proper hygiene to we don’t get sick?

  • Ronin says:

If you were a real Jack fan, you;d just get 6 tacos for 3$ (it’s a deal everyday!!)…..

    I haven;t had a Jack in over 2 years… that’s how you diet people!!!… I miss it too!!!!!

  • ocgurl says:

It used to come with a drink and not the fries.

  • Robert Jimenez says:

This deal is great… Good job Jack =)

  • Yum this does sound like quite a deal! Usually the value meals only offer 2 non drink items while this one offers 3. Also I like the fact it goes without the rip off item of a drink.
Those veggies out there must be seething over this meaty value meal ( but hey it does include fries which are a vegitable serving in my book plus a few strands of lettuce )

  • OCMOTHER says:

Did they forget to add the drink?

  • Date says:

I can now afford to take my girlfriend out to dinner.

  • PG says:

Enough with this Fast Food column - Americans are fricken’ obese, we don’t need added advertising in the Register.

  • Matt says:

That’s a pretty good deal. While the tacos (the two for 99-cents tofu ones) are delicious when you’re drunk, they do not look like they are depicted in the picture.

  • isabel says:

avrabinowitz - quit being a dousche. everything in moderation. so if i can have it at $3 a meal than that’s my business.

  • ratpen says:

Rabbi, we know it may not be kosher…let us Gentiles enjoy, l’chaim!

  • Dean says:

Not really a good deal.Their tacos have changed. No cheese, and far less meat. They taste bad

  • hbrealist says:

Lol…..and somehow i dont think that people going to jack are really going to be paying a whole lot of attention to their calorie and fat intake. glad you wasted your time typing all that junk up.

  • Luis says:

i think those new fries with the skin on them suck bad.. i wish they would bring back their old floppy greasy fries from the 80’s.. and not to mention the double cheeseburger.. this MR BOX guy should go away now and be like they used to be.. they blew him up once before, hes about due!

  • Arous says:

Right On Luis! The new fries suck! It does look like they got the tacos pictured from Taco Bell. :-)

  • proudcoconut says:

Look here “JIM”… the more important question is “how did legal status become an issue in a forum about fast food?” Really… must everything come down to a question of legal status in this country?? This is ridiculous.

  • Mark Hoffman says:

    Mmmmmm grease!!!

The tacos show cheese on them…………maybe they changed back?

  • BeachBumBob says:

Mr. A V Rabinowitz your posted note made me decide to go out and purchase 2 Jack advertise meal deals (with exta-cheese added!) and came home and had several calorie laden drinks with “Booze”, because “Booze” is the answer to everything!

Oh I did use water as a water back chaser, Hey I got to watch my waistline!

I wonder how many weight watchers points that is?

    Happy New Year to Everyone!

  • A V Rabinowitz says:

    BeachBumbBob,

How much was the extra cheese? Did you get extra cheese on your taco’s as well?

  • Rob says:

Anyone wanna go to Farrells for dessert after appetizers at Jack in The Box and dinner at Bob’s Big Boy?

  • BeachBumBob says:

Mr. Rabinowitz, you know I forgot to do that. Thanks I won’t make that mistake again, as those Jack In the Box (with mystery meat) always taste better with the xtra-cheese!

Now I wish they bring back the “Real Lard” that they (all restaurants) fried in. Since they got rid of that all things fried or french fries really suck now.

Saw TV Host Rachel Ray last night on her F.N. show visiting Paris. There she ate traditional french food that was deep fried in duck fat! yum yum.

A.V. highlite and then paste into web browser (anybody else if you want to listen) As I suspect you might be a closeted “Junk Food Junkie” as in this song that Dr Demento use to play all the time.

When you get to the web page click on the ‘play sample” (could find the complete song on the internet for free. It was a classic.

Dose anybody else remember this funny song or Dr Demento? Not sure if he is even on the radio any more. He use to be on Sunday nights in the 70’s on KLOS FM.

Not a bad deal but with a drink it comes to about $5. I think the deal at Del Taco is much better. I burrito, a taco and a drink for 2.99.

  • jennifer says:

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Jack in the Box tacos! If only they looked like that picture all the time.

I agree with Ronin, 6 tacos for 3 bucks is a deal! But you have to be sure they are freshly made. I recently went to JIB and got some saturated, stale tasting tacos.

  • tom says:

Any old timers out there who remember JIB tacos in the late 50’s,
early 60’s? I worked in one for a few months when I was in JC.
They came to us frozen and then we fried them in the same oil
as the fries. A burger was 15 - 20 cents. It came with Jack’s secret sauce.

  • DocNavyGuy says:

Did anyone ever stop to consider that this isn’t exactly a ‘deal’…

A Jumbo Jack is usually $.99

    2 Taco are $.99

and now we gotta pay $.99 for fries??

    Unless I’m somehow wrong….

  • nicole price says:

I am on board with DocNavyGuy. This is a scam of a value meal. You can get this deal straight from the menu. Go ala carte people.

  • TD says:

Jackn’ the box hasn’t had 99 cent jumbo jacks in years so you’re probably saving 30 cents or so

  • Alan says:

    2 big thumbs DOWN!
All of the items are a dollar anyway. Add a drink to this and I may get this a few hrs before I go to the gym.

  • Yahhh says:

Bodacious! im bouts to go try it today
