Carl’s Jr. copies Jack in the Box with sirloin steak

Carl's Jr. Sirloin Steak Sandwich

Carl’s Jr. launched another “fancy” sandwich today that looks like a rival to Jack in the Box’s sirloin steak burgers.

The Charbroiled Steak Sandwich is served on a roll and is made  with 100 percent sirloin steak. It is topped with breaded onion rings, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise. The cost: $4.69 a la carte, or $7.19 for a combo that includes fries and a drink. (Get a $1 off coupon)

As you might recall, Jack in the Box sells sirloin burgers. The San Diego chain rubbed Carl’s Jr. the wrong way last year when it poked fun of its Angus burgers. The dispute led to a lawsuit that Carl’s Jr. lost.

Now, I find it funny that Carl’s Jr. is now promoting a product with sirloin.

This Carl’s Jr. ad, featuring yet another sexy blond and her slob boyfriend, debuts this week to support the sirloin burger. Watch it below:

Nancy, If recall they both had these types of sandwiches back in the late 70’s or early 80’s for a while (both kind of had a rubber snap back to it, if you know what I mean). I will give this new one a try.

Since both Companies seem to be bring back back “Retro Foods” , I just wish Jack in the Box would bring back it’s Bonus Jacks sandwiches and Carls Jr bring back it’s Chile Cheese Hot Dogs. They were both great to eat after a long day of surfing.

The chains that keep coming out with new stuff are the ones I regularly visit. I haven’t visited a McDonalds since the Monopoly promotion and don’t plan to until the next Monopoly promotion unless they introduce some new products. Last time I went to Burger King was several months ago when they introduced those Steakhouse sandwiches.

I liked the Roast Beef sandwich at Carl’s, much better than what Arby’s offers, and I look forward to checking out the new sirloin sandwich.

Taco Bell recently added the Loaded Nachos, which I enjoyed too.

  • chrystal clay says:

Actually, Carl’s is NOT trying to copy Jack. Carl’s had a charbroiled steak sandwich on the menu many years ago–the sandwich was great tasting then, and it is great tasting now.

I’m sure that they are advertising it to be made with sirloin to set the Charbroiled Steak Sandwich apart from their line of angus Six Dollar Burgers.

I had the Charbroiled Steak Sandwich today,in a combo, and I enjoyed every single bite.

Thanks again Carl’s for making me a loyal customer.

  • BeachBumBob says:

Forgot to mention that if you go to http://www.carlsjr.com you can get a $1.00 off coupon for the steak sandwich

  • bpsqwerty says:

I gotta try that Carl’s Steak sandwich (pass on the roast beef, thanks!). I know a particular chain of casual sit-down restaurants that used to have an awesome steak sandwich that no longer serve it. I won’t go there anymore!

Thanks BeachBumBob for the coupon!! I always forget to check their website for that, because they always have $1 off SOMETHING

  • Major Meltdown says:

Jack in the Box Sirloin burger taste like a sirloin steak from a frozen dinner, While the meat patty has the sirloin flavor on it, the patty is the same ol flavorless patty, While the Carls burger patties are actually not bad, But since I got sick on a Carl’s Jr burger back in June I haven’t ate there since. So I wont be trying anything new at Carls for a long long time.

P.S. Jack in the Box Tacos rule…….And no I dont want to know what’s in em…..

  • dumb in oc says:

I wonder if the fat count in grams has hit triple digits with this one?

  • Ronald M. says:

Have you tried the Carl’s skin on natural cut fries? I heard that one order has your entire daily requirement for sodium inside the potato itself. Ah, the old hiding the sodium trick is alive and well.

  • darock says:

whoa!!!!??? this is news? this sandwich has been out for months!!! i tried it the moment i first saw it on the menus back in August(?)

i’m always up to try anything that Carls jr. whips out cause i love the place, but this sandwich had no flavor. i’m sorry to say this, but it’s the truth! i will not order that sandwich again, until the ad says: now with 100% more flavor!

so in short, from one carl’s jr lover to another, i do not recommend this burger.

I’m Sorry Carl, but i had to say it. RIP

  • OCSurtRat says:

I’m with clay. I remember eating the Carl’s sirloin steak sandwich when I was younger. They aren’t copying Jack In The Box, they’re just bringing back an old menu item (the picture is exactly how I remember it). They were pretty good too from what I remember.

  • Lori says:

The Carl’s Steak sandwich, really isn’t new, they used to have one years ago. I was sad when they quit selling it. I’m glad they brought it back, I know I will buy it.

  • Stinger says:

I think you have your facts wrong. Jack making fun of the Angus burgers as a jab at MC DONALDS! Carl’s didn’t have the angus burgers at the time.

  • Pakman says:

You really need to change the title of this article. Carl’s Jr had this years ago and took it off the menu while I was serving in the military. Imagine coming home on leave and not being able to get what is remembered as one of the greatest sandwiches around. I waited 8 YEARS! lol They also had a Western style version of this sandwich. Wonder if they’ll slip that in too.

  • hunterr83 says:

If it tastes anything like their steak and mushroom burger, I’ll pass. I just don’t get what the deal is with their steak. It doesn’t have the consistency of the type of steak you eat at a restaurant or the ones you purchase from grocery stores and prepare at home. These Carl’s Jr. “steaks” taste like rubber. Beef? Yes. Steak? Heck no. Beef and mushroom burger is more like it.

  • Eric says:

Since Carl’s Jr. is into bringing back retro foods……………I too wish Carls would bring back the chili dog……..I went to their web page and emailed them requesting they do so…………I would love it if any one else that wants to see the chili dog comeback would do the same thing……….

  • Dan says:

Went into Carl’s to order the roast beef sandwich that I love, and I was surprised to hear it had already been discountinued after only 2 weeks to make room for this “100% sirloin” “steak” Sandwich. I’m not a fan of this one, calling it a steak is a bit of a stretch. Unlike Boston Market, this one is tough and didn’t have the flavor, texture or even the color of any steak I would care to eat. They should really disguise it with BBQ sauce like they used to, or just stick with the Roast Beef sandwich instead!

  • macalayah says:

Bring back the roast beef, Carls!

  • A V Rabinowitz says:

Thanks for the link to the coupons. Used them last evening for the steak sandwich. No thanks. They did not taste good. I would rather have a Big Burger (now 30% more money @ $1.29) than the steak sandwich at $4.69 (before coupon).

Big Burger is $3.40 less than the steak sandwich, and to me tastes better. Even the six dollar burger tastes better.

    Just my opinion.

  • bpsqwerty says:

    darock, I think you’re wrong….

I did notice they have a “mushroom steak” sandwich on the menu, which was already there. but that one has no onion rings as this “sirloin steak” sandwich has.

I tried this the other day and liked it a lot… delicious. the only problem, the bun they gave me was soggy after the 10 minutes it took me to drive home and eat it. so next time I’ll have to hope this doesn’t happen.

I love me my steak sandwich… Hooter’s actually USED to have a good one which is no longer there. too bad, so sad, Carl’s it is.

  • bpsqwerty says:

Pakman: I would love a western version! it’s just one ingredient shy: “tangy” barbeque sauce!

  • darock says:

    bpsqwerty,

excuse me did i just hear that i was wrong??!! jk

well i went to the Carls jr on Harbor and MacArthur and i clearly remember that it was a long time ago already. i mean, the sandwich was alright, but nothing to rave over. i know that some Carls jr offer their sandwiches in some restaurants before others. so maybe you hadnt seen it yet in your local Carls.

  • Angela says:

My husband created this sandwich with the company he works for. The commercial is really stupid. Its a great sandwich

  • Tubesteak says:

Nancy, you obviously didn’t do any research before writing this article.

For years my dad has complained that Carls Jr. got rid of his favorite fast food item on their menu, which was the steak sandwhich. I remember him ordering this all the time back in the 70s and 80s. It’s more of a retro menu item than copying.
