The city of Orange is adding two popular fast-food chains to its restaurant mix: Arby’s and Wahoo’s Fish Taco.
Orange city officials have announced plans for Wahoo’s to open its first Orange location at 238 W. Chapman Ave. in Old Towne Orange. The move won’t be simple. The Santa Ana-based taco chain is occupying the Vineland Home, originally constructed in 1886 as Orange’s first hotel, according to the city. Wahoo’s will restore the building, which is largely concealed by a modern stucco storefront.
The building is currently occupied by Ex-Mormoms for Jesus. Construction is slated to begin in summer 2009.
On the other side of town, Arby’s will open in the spot where Quan’s Rockin’ Sushi operated. The existing building will be demolished and rebuilt to accommodate Arby’s and two other retail tenants, according to the city. By the way, Arby’s opened over the weekend a new eatery in Tustin at 13982 Newport Blvd. It replaced a Rally’s. (More on Tustin Arby’s).
As previously reported, Old Towne Orange is also expected to get a Cherry on
Top, the second in the city. The other one is located on Chapman Avenue, near Esplanade. It was slated to open in November. But I peeked through the window the other day, and the place looked gutted. I suspect it won’t open until after the holidays. City officials say the self-serve froyo shop is still expected to open in the winter. Stay tuned for an opening date. (Are froyo shops saturating the O.C. market? Read more here, and take our POLL.)

Not impressed by Wahoo’s at all…………I’ll keep going to Jalapeno’s on Glassell………….
I agree with Eric. I have not had anything there that I find good. Rubio’s, Frescas, La Salsa, and Sharkys all operate in the same market, and they are all much better. I have a friend that swears by the enchiladas at Wahoos, but for fish tacos, burritos, quesadillas…Sorry Wahoo’s.
Yes Syrinx……..Rubio’s makes a good fish taco…..even better when they are on sale!
I guess going to Baja Mexico for the last 30 years has somewhat skewed my taste buds………nothing better than a fish taco and a cold cerveza from a corner taco stand on a dirt street…………
I usually get the Maui bowl when I go to Wahoo’s.
Speaking of tacos — I just had a shirmp tacos from Fresca’s in Anaheim. It was fantastic. A little pricey at $2.95. The tortilla soup, on the other hand, was OK. Good, but not great. Wahoo’s and El Pollo Loco make a better tortilla soup. (Fresca’s, by the way is an OC-based chain.)
I eat almost everyday at Wahoos, because:
-They have the best fish Tacos I’ve ever had, grilled not fried.
-A taco platter with tons of rice & beans served on a real plate with silverware is still only $3.99!
- Food and service are restaurant quality
-The manager always welcomes me
-They say goodbye when I leave
-They are still closey family run, unlike most of their competing chains that sold out
So I am very happy that they are opening up in a historic house in Orange!
…and they often have cheap beer.
Let me repeat: cheap beer.
Everything else is irrelevant.
Quan’s Rockin Sushi is no loss. Been there, hated it. No wonder they’re gone. An Arby’s is an improvement.
Cheap Beer!
Wahoo’s has AWESOME rice and beans. I don’t know what they do different but it’s DELICIOUS!!! And for those that drink, I agree with Wa-Hoo~ CHEAP beer! Great food, affordable prices, promoting OC business as well as family run companies. Not many out there.
“It feels like an Arby’s night” (Puddy from Seinfield)……
Seriously, I’m glad to hear Arby’s will be opening just up the street, I’m sick of the burgers and pizza around here.
