Updated 8:20 a.m. Wednesday to include comment from McDonald’s about SoCal

Starting Monday, McDonald’s franchisees will have the option to raise the price of its double cheeseburger to $1.19, including those in Orange and Los Angeles counties, company spokeswoman Danya Proud said.

It will also be replaced by a dollar cheeseburger dubbed the McDouble that has only one slice of cheese.

Here’s a statement I got early this morning (Wednesday) from McDonald’s Vice President of Marketing Greg Watson:

“Beginning December 1, we will add the new McDouble burger, made with two all-beef patties and one slice of cheese, to our popular Dollar Menu. The Double Cheeseburger will still be available on our menu, and will still be offered at a great value. We want our customers to know they can depend on McDonald’s to provide the everyday value and convenience they’ve come to
expect, every time they visit our restaurants. These changes will ensure we continue to satisfy our customers’ tastes and wallets.”

The news should not be shocking. McDonald’s officials have previously said that it plans to replace the dollar Double Cheeseburger with a new sandwich dubbed the McDouble.  Read my previous McDouble/Double Cheeseburger report here.

In the meantime, I just saw a Burger King commercial announcing the return of the Whopper Jr. to the chain’s dollar menu. How’s that for good timing?
