Tacos & Co. is offering one of the best holiday food deals of the year, which is not surprising.  The fast-casual chain is known for its great everyday specials and serves some of the best authentic Mexican food in Orange County.

Here’s the holiday deal: If you buy $100 in gift cards, the chain will give you $50 in bonus gift card money. Specifically, the cards are being sold in $10 denominations. So when you buy 10, you get a total of 15 gift cards – for grand total of $150. Wow.

The cards do not expire and you can use several at once or use them one at a time, the chain said.  They are being sold and honored at all Tacos & Co. locations, which are in Irvine (near UC Irvine), Brea (in the Brea Mall), Santa Ana (near South Coast Plaza), Westminster (in the mall) and Newport Beach. The deal is good now through Dec. 31.

By the way, Tacos & Co. also gives a great 50% off deal for students. Read more here.

My take: For those of you who have never eaten at Tacos & Co., let me say one thing: this fresh-Mex chain is probably the best kept secret in Orange County. The food is fantastic  — from the homemade chips and salsa to the fresh ceviche.

My only gripe: there’s not enough of them. But as it turns out, that might change soon.  Tacos & Co.  founder and owner Francisco Hernandez (shown) recently announced plans to franchise the chain. By franchising, he hopes to build more restaurants in Southern California.

Can someone please buy the rights to build one in Orange or Tustin?

Looking for more holiday food deals? Stay tuned next week. I’ll be posting a comprehensive list of Black Friday and seasonal specials found at Orange County restaurants.

  • Eating Fool says:

    Nancy,

I’ve never eaten at Tacos & Co. but I like the tacos at The Taco Company on N. Tustin. How do they compare?

  • Nancy Luna says:

Eating Fool: I have never eaten at The Taco Co. , believe it or not. My choice in Orange for street tacos is Taqueria Mexicana (sp?) on Katella Avenue and Glassell Street in Orange.

  • Eating Fool says:

Is that the little place next to 7-11? If so, I’ve eaten there before and the tacos were really good. I like it better than Tacos Mexico on 17th and Grand.

  • Eric says:

If you want good taco’s in Orange…….go to Carnitas Los Reyes on the corner of Palmyra and Tustin St…….that place makes good everything!

  • Rick says:

Go to the taco stand in tijuana and stay there !

  • Rick says:

    To Eric ,
Learn to write english por favor !
” that place makes good everything”

Wonderful… more incentive for people to eat fatty foods. There are too many obese people in the OC as it is. Now we can look forward to even more fat people. Go ahead and chow down at Taco’s & Co. Dont be whining when diabetes and heart disease set in at age 32. And then stints and blood thinners at age 35. Then storke and heart attack at age 38. Nice.

  • Eating Fool, yes…it’s the place near 7-Eleven, and Eric is right..Carnitas Los Reyes is awesome, too. But, I stopped eating there a long time ago, because they make you wait FOREVER. But, oh, the chips there are good.

  • Eric says:

Jesus Christ Rick!……………..I didn’t realize this was a Princeton writing class here…………BTW Rick…………..what part of my post is in spanish?? (por favor)

I just had a carnitas burrito from Carnitas Los Reyes………that was one darn fine burrito!

  • CC says:

I love Taco & Co. They actually have some non-greasy options. I haven’t been there in a while but this will motivate me. Might be a good idea for New Years Bowl game party food. Thanks for the info :)

    Hello WFICT,

I copied what “Mike” from Del Taco to added here to answer your comments.

“Geez, this is blog called “Fast Food Maven” not “blood glucose control Maven”? Its all for fun, what else is Nancy supposed to write about.”

    Need I say more?

  • Alfred says:

    Nancy,

Have you ever eaten at Taqueria Guadalupana on 1997 N Orange Olive Road in Orange? Been going there for over 10 years. They make great asada and pastor tacos there.

Most consumer reporters state not to buy gift cards this season, they will probably be out of business in ‘09 then your stuck with worthless gift cards.

  • steve says:

Do they serve brain ,tonge, or beef head tacos?

  • Lou says:

next time you go to a mexican taco place ask them for tacojiendo or tacolgando..very good try them

  • Melissa says:

Someone give the health watcher a leaf of lettuce.

Mexican food is made with so much love and most places have the opportunity to expand, but choose not to do so. Congratualations to Tacos and Co for looking to expand. Sarinana’s Tamale Factory on 5th and Hawley in Santa Ana also have some amazing tacos. When I was stuck on a rock in the middle of the pacific I craved those tacos like no other. You can taste the freshness of the meat, grated cojita cheese and hand sliced ripe tomato on top.

  • Christian says:

I’m surprised some of the people that post here all the time don’t start their own healthy eating blog.

  • Nancy Luna says:

We do have a new blog called Healthy Living that many of you might actually enjoy commenting on. The writers focus a lot on food issues.

  • Lisa says:

I’m with nuttypoo. Any eatery could go down in this economy (any business for that matter). I won’t be purchasing ANY gift cards this holiday season.

  • Eating Fool says:

I just got back from eating at Taqueria Mexico. I think I was the only gavacho in there however there was awfully delightful sequence of events that kept happening over and over. Yummy food showed up when I said, “al pastor, carnitas, asada and bbq pork.”

I think I’ll go back again next week.
