McDonald's Double Cheeseburger contains two slices of cheese, while the McDouble will have one slice.
To keep prices down for consumers without undercutting its own profit, McDonald’s confirmed plans to replace the dollar Double Cheeseburger with a new sandwich dubbed the McDouble.
The McDouble is identical to the Double Cheeseburger except it has one slice of cheese. When the menu shift occurs, McDonald’s is expected to raise the price of the Double Cheeseburger to $1.19, McDonald’s marketing executive Greg Watson told the Chicago Tribune.
McDonald’s declined to say when the change will occur to the Dollar Menu in Southern California. Here’s a statement Watson sent me this week:
“Our customers tell us that value is important. And we are listening. The recommendation to add McDouble to our popular Dollar Menu reflects that we’re not only listening - but we’re responding - by providing our customers even more choices, with the everyday affordability our customers expect,” he said.
In making the Dollar Menu change, he confirmed that McDonald’s will eventually “adjust the price of the Double Cheeseburger.”
“We want our customers to know they can depend on McDonald’s to provide the everyday value and convenience they’ve come to expect, every time they visit our restaurants. These recommended changes will ensure we continue to satisfy our customers’ tastes and wallets,” Watson said.
Tell us: Are both burgers still a great deal?

single cheeseburger tastes better. you don’t need all that meat and cheese, just my two cents.
I miss the triple cheesburger for a buck…………more meat and cheese the better………..but, double meat and single cheese won’t be probelm…….that’s just my one hundred cents.
i love the double cheeseburger…will pay the extra cents for two slices of mccheese!
Where is the McRib???
yeah MCRIB MCRIB!
i agree…bring back the mcrib !
Bring back the McDLT !!
this isn’t change we can believe in…
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now how will I get my artery clogging fix?
What a load of B.S. If McCain had a spokesman like him, mybe he would have won. Why dont they just come on out with the truth and just say, “Hey, it wasn’t profitable for us to make, so we had to raise the price up a few cents” That’s It!, Simple statement.
My question now is? What’s next to go up in price at McDonalds?
Good for McDonald’s. Our arteries don’t need that extra piece of cheese. McDonald’s cheese slices (McCheese?) have such a strong (and rather industrial) flavor anyway that you really only need one slice to get that Fake-o Cheesy Flavor.
McOMG!!!!
What you are doing is worng you want me to pay $1 for less double cheeseburger. I will not buy the double cheeseburger for $1.19. What you are doing is hoping that people like me who love the double cheeseburger for $1 will still buy it for $1.19. I will not pay more for less burger. I will not pay more for the same burger.
Shift the profit burden to the salads, make it up there.
IMO more than one slice of American cheese is gross anyway.
I think this is great because it’s exactly what I wanted all along. Now I don’t have to embarass myself ordering a double cheese, but with only 1 slice of cheese please and have them go, “what?”
McDLT = Big n’ Tasty
I just can’t seem to grasp that McDonald’s nickle and dimes you for everything sooner or later they will end up charging us for ketchup and for extra napkins…
Go Figure
This only causes confusion with money. I have been buying the double cheese for months for a dollar, then go into and order some for my kids today to get charged another 60 cents.
So I start arguing with the guy saying I’m looking right at your dollar menu and it still says a dollar, he was new and couldn’t figure it out himself why the menu had it listed for 1 dollar and 1.19.
So he removed the 1.19 ones he entered, and gave me the dollar menu ones. I looked at the sandwich and did not even notice the difference.
20 cents for a piece of soy bean oil based fake cheese eh.
What a dumb idea, just charge extra if they want extra cheese to avoid confusion at the check out line when people are in a hurry.
Now they are announcing that the double cheeseburger will go up to $1.19 when they come out with the new burger? I’ve gone to a number of LA McD’s and the price changed last year to $1.19. What gives? When they come out with new burger are they going to bump up the price again?
Nothing but nickel and diming over a slice of cheese. They haven’t even been able to put a full slice of cheese on the Filet of Fish for a number of years. When I ask for a full slice of cheese they don’t know how to charge me for it, since they only give you half a slice to begin with.
I think McDonalds needs to bring back the McPizza. I haven’t seen it for about 15 years but still think about it everynight.
I’m worried about adhesion. Does the cheese go between the patties, providing a solid sandwich stack, or on top, where the flavor will be exhibited better but might cause the sandwich patties to slide againt each other?
McD’s gives me the McNasty the next morning
i don’t see how 1 piece of cheese is worth 20 cents. who cares anyways, 1 piece of cheese really wouldn’t make the difference of appetite satisfied vs hungry
I work at a McDonalds and with how much dairy has gone up, excluding labor costs, it costs about 83cents to make a double cheeseburger. So really i think the McDouble is a great solution to the problem. It is a business after all, and in a business you need to make money while still providing excellent quality, and affordability. Which this does.
And TJ, the cheese is going inbetween the 2 patties making it so that it looks better, and will hold together rather than fall apart.
And Todd, that sounds like it was more the employees mistake that caused the confusion. At the store i work at things have gone smoothly because we made sure that EVERYONE knew what was going on and what to tell the customer. For at least the next 2 weeks every time some asks for a double cheeseburger we ask if theyd rather have the double cheese, or the McDouble and explain what the difference is.
And Isabel, even though it hasnt been announced to the public, the McRib is coming back on January 3rd i believe, at least in the MidWest region. This is because usually by the time they take it away people are tired of it, this year there were LOTS of complaints nation-wide about it, so they are answering that by bringing it back.
And Raynetta, unfortunately thats the way things work. All things slowly go up overtime. What we are doing though is replacing what has gone up in price, with a similar sandwich that is at the price customers are used to. Its a compromise in a way.
Ean, thanks so much for weighing in. Your insight is appreciated.
Nancy
I just hope the cheese is half on/half off the patty. It is something my family has come to expect (nibble a little cheese first, then take a bite of the cheeseburger area, and finally finish with a hamburger- all in the same sandwich). I am convinced that McD teaches “offset cheese installation” in the McUniversity
hahaha im glad im a vegetarian
Earl, it is actually supposed to be centered on the patty. You can always ask for it to be half on/half off, of course. Im kind of surprised also, most people havent even heard of Hamburger University up in Chicago.
Well, while drivinig to northern Indiana today I found the DC to cost $1.39 not $1.19 as indicated above. Is one lousy micro-thin slice-o-cheez actually worth 39-cents???
I’d like to see McDonalds get the old recipe for the Gino’s Giant, Gino Marchetti’s old burger. I lived in Alexandria, VA. and they made the best burger I’ve ever eaten but they went out of business. If you grill it, I will come.
It’s the recession that caused it
In other words, a McDouble is actually a reduced-cheese Double Cheeseburger, with less meat and cheese than a Quarter Pounder with Cheese, yet McD’s getting slammed by a watchdog/vegetarian group for introducing a less healthful product????
well, having recently tried the Mcdouble, i found that i like it a lot better than the Double cheeseburger. I think by adding one slice of cheese to the burger allow you to taste everything in the burger just right. on top ot that i love how when i received this burger it didnt have the customary grease/oil on top of the bun ( i hate that!!! ). so, i guess what i’m trying to say is that i loved the mcdouble, but dont love that i have to pay more for less.
Sound like McDonalds is become McCheap. I’d rather a whopper any day of the week.
I call it a McRip-off. For years a Single Cheeseburger was 5 cents less than a Double Cheeseburger (????) now they charge you the same price for less cheese. I thought the meat would cost more than the cheese. Might as well moved the Cheeseburger to the dollar meal and charged the extra 20 cents for a double. I may not have liked it but it would have made more sense.
The mcdouble tastes just as good as the dC!! I can only take so much of that artificial cheese anyway!!
I dont eat that foolishness
It’s Just Shabby
a slice of cheese dont cost no damn 19 cents
who do they think they is
John, corporate recommends the prices. But the owner/operator has the final say in what the prices are. Its possible that food costs are slightly higher in that area therefore that specific owner/operator chose to make it more than the recommended price so that he wouldnt be risking losing money. It is a business after all.
the mcrib is back here in nc.. i think thats ridiculous witrh the mcdouble vs the double cheeseburger.. i was confused and had to have the cashier explain why the double cheez went up twenty cents
When traveling I had a Angus burger at McDonalds and I really liked that I wish they would bring it to the Greenup and Boyd Co Kentucky areas.
David, theres a huge variety of different sandwiches that franchise owners arent required to sell. The Angus burger happens to be one of those items.
Screwing the American People is becoming popular with FF joints now a days. i live in youngstown ohio the owner of our mcdonalds stores Herb Washington is so cheap he is now charging us for condiments now he ups the Double Cheese Burger to $1.29 and sells us a half a cheese burger for the same price, buy a double Cheese and a McDouble look at them , a slice of cheese isnt the only thing missing, what do they take us for idiots
What about the McPizza!!
could not leave well enough alone.money is the only thing that matters
Removing 1 piece of cheese will save McDonald’s about 6 cents per sandwich. Evidently the Double Cheeseburger/McDouble changes could boost cash flow by $15,000 a year per restaurant. It sucks, but wouldn’t you want your business to be as profitable as it could be too?!
A very smart move. A person can still get a great sandwich and if they want more cheese, they can pay the additional. In these tough economic times I’d rather save a job and loose a slice of cheese.
They should make a double cheese bugger chicken nugget hybrid.
Maybe the ………….Mcburget. By far the best two items on the menu,
Oh yeah honey mustard all over the Mc burget for only 10 cents more?
have any of you even tasted them or are you just mad because your cheese is gone
they taste the exact same, and if you so desperately crave cheese then go to the store and get 24 slices of cheese for like 2$
I just ordered my son a new McDouble one slice of cheese $1.00 and my seld the same but hold the cheese just a double Hamburg for witch they charged $1.19 (A Double Cheeseburger no cheese)
WHY!!!
I just ordered my son a new McDouble one slice of cheese $1.00 and my self the same but hold the cheese (just a double Hamburg) for witch they charged $1.19 (A Double Cheeseburger no cheese)
WHY!!! the Clirk said thats how they were told to ring them up!!
Ha yeah, I just ordered a double hamburger figuring they’d charge the McDouble w/o cheese cause I’m saving them another 20 cents of cheese…nope! They charged the price of a double cheese. That’s shady!
I was craving McDonalds on Sunday. I went to the drive through and ordered the same thing I always do, 2 double cheesebergers and a small fry. Since, I was buying for two I was expecting the price to be just over $6.00 including tax. When the total came up to just over $8.00. I noticed my order on the board and everything was more than it usually was. I said FTP thinking it was some rip-off owner op McDonalds and drove off.
Today still craving that DC, I went to a different Micky D’s and ordered 2 dc and a small fry. This time the girl asked me if I wanted a McDouble not the DC. I asked what is a McDouble and she said it is basically the same as the DC. I ordered 2 MCD and a small fry and my order was still more than usual. i noticed the greedy basturds have also raised the price on small fries too.
I ate the McDouble and it was not bad, but not as good. I was curious about this McDouble I ate today and ended up here.
As far as McDonalds, I will be eating there less… instead I am into this cheesy double beef burrito at Taco Bell, two of those for under $2.00 works for me.
All of you people who think this is an outrage are absolutely ridiculous, Get over your slice of cheese, and if you’re ignorant enough to complain about it, pay extra for it.
I FOR ONE WILL JUST DRIVE TO WENDYS AND GET BETTER FOOD! THIS IS THE LAST STRAW! TAKING MY DOUBLE CHEESEBURGER! HOW DARE U MCDONALDS!
how does McDonalds make a profit off of the Big Mac? I can’t believe these things are selling!?! Just order a McDouble with no mustard or ketchup and add Big Mac Sauce and Lettuce and you have a Big Mac without the extra piece of bread and no sesame seeds for about a third of the price!?!?! Why do people want to pay that much for more bread and some sesame seeds??? McDonalds should come down on the price of a Big Mac… I’d gladly pay $1.50- $1.75 for one
First off Billy the mass majority of stores, including the one i work at offers what they call the “Double Mac”. Basically exactly the sandwich you described. Except its $1.99 with less sauce, lettuce, and onions that go on the Big Mac. And that sandwich barely makes any money. Theyre doing it so people arent trying to screw them over by doing whatever they can to not have to pay full price. If you want a Big Mac, GET A BIG MAC!
And people i dont know if you ever paid attention but EVERYTHING goes up in price slowly over time. Especially with the economy the way it is. So get over it. Would you prefer that they just kept the prices down until they all went out of business? Then where would you get your food?
I want them to bring the Arch Deluxe back! I know it wasn’t a huge seller, but I also don’t think it was marketed properly. That pepperjack bacon was just awesome!
Alright, listen. When I first heard of this I was outraged. I couldn’t believe it. After they switched to the “late night menu” I thought if they ever did anything like that again I’d quit. But I thought they got rid of the double cheese altogether. When I found out it was still there only cost more, I decided I’d give them a try. I ordered a mcdouble and a dbl cheese. I figured I’d eat the mcdouble first to give it a fair chance (everyone knows the second burger never tastes as good). My conclusion was that I need the second slice of cheese because without it, the top burger dries up and doesn’t taste very good. So if you’re getting it to go and don’t plan to eat it until you get home, the mcdouble is just gonna be completely dry. (note: i like my burgers plain. meat and cheese only. so that is probably part of the reason it dries up)
and Brian: you keep saying everything goes up in price slowly. yes that is true. but think about it. if something went up in price 19% in ANY other market, do you think people would accept that? No. They wouldn’t. So why not raise the price of everything by 2 cents? (just an example). I agree with most of what you said though. But 19% is ridiculous.
But nothing… and i mean nothing… is as ridiculous as the Late Nite Menu. I want my double cheese burger at ANY time i feel like going on a mcdonalds run. (I will accept a sausage egg mcmuffin instead)
to jose sanchez… some store DO charge for ketchup, the one i originally worked at when i was a teenager now gives you no more than 4 packets of ketchup complimentary, but if you want more you have to pay 10c a packet… but back on topic, theres a reason they call these “dollar menus” because we like our products to be a dollar or 99c.. i used to love wendy’s dollar menu but now its shrunk to only a handful of items that are a buck and even their delicious nuggets are 1.19.. and as for mcdonalds, they only have two decent sandwiches and what a dinky fry that they never fill up anyway so you pay a dollar for maybe 5 fries?.. screw it i’m going to popeyes
Jeeze you fatties get a life.
Bring back the McTaco!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bring back the Arch Deluxe!
I laugh in my head at the people who are mad. I think McD’s has handled this wonderfully. News for you crazies who think this is a horrible trick, it’s called inflation. I respect McD’s for still giving a good $1 menu choice. It’s still way cheaper than any of the other sandwiches, so those of us who want to be cheap still can. It’s better than Taco bell starting something on the value menu and then migrating it over to the regular menu.
It is still a good deal burger king charges 25 cents for cheese on anything, McD’s has been giving that to people for free all this time. even with the second piece of cheese charged you’re still getting one piece more than BK would give you.
IT IS ALL SO BAD FOR YOU ANYWAY
The DC was the lifeblood of Mickey D’s. They will collapse just like Wall Street.
Hey Remi, they didn’t take it off the menu its still there just slightly more expensive and now theres another burger to choice from on the menu…. Its blasphemous to speak ill of an institution like Mc Donalds. I hope you and everyone else on here that spoke ill of the king of fastfood stub your toes!!!!!
For my taste the mcdouble is better than the double cheeseburger. The onion and pickle flavor come through without being smothered in cheese and the two patties gives it a stick to the ribs for an on the go sandwich, bravo- I would pay more for the mcdouble
Hell, McNasty can do what they want, I know that I won’t be eating there. The last time, and I do mean last time that I had a McNasty I ordered a BigMac at a drive through. When I got home and opened it up there was no meat in it. What is the first line in the freakin song? I contacted the company and never heard squat about it. I hope they go bankrupt and don’t get bailed out with my money.
Bring back my Arch Deluxe!
I had a girlfriend once who used to slather mayonaise on double cheeseburgers (two slices of cheese). It grossed me out. Finally, we broke up when I snapped one time in the drive thru–I said, “WTF, why are you ordering mayonaise on double cheeseburgers? Are the 100 grams of saturated fat not enough, you need a lil’ extra?” She slapped me in the face and opened the car door, leaving me alone, stuck with the bill and two gross double mayonaise burgers.
Get over it! People are really complaining about only getting one piece of cheese, this is why everyone in America is obese. Prices go up everywhere, name another restaurant, other than Wendy’s, where you can get a double cheeseburger for a dollar, despite the tragedy of only getting one piece of cheese. At least it’s not like Burger King who charges for extra condiments, including ketchup, and no I’m not kidding.
If you’ve ever wanted a Big Mac minus the lettuce and middle bun, do what I do…order the McDouble with Mac Sauce. The added sauce is currently free here in Washington state, but could be different from state to state. Just had a McDouble w/Mac Sauce, Large Fry, and Water for $3.27. What a cheap meal.
Now I have to jogging later.
Burger King already has comercials promoting the fact that their dollar menu still has two slices of cheese. I thought that was funny.
But i like the 2 slices of cheese!!!! It’s the best part, and I just love double cheese burgers!!!
You’re not listening
We want the McRib
Your ads and all the promotional material keep saying ‘Dollar Menu’ yet it is not $1. At some point someone will file class-action against you for misleading advertising. I never could figure out why I couln’t order my burger and give them $1. I was told the cheese cost extra. Then I see the cheeseburger in the ‘Dollar Menu’ ad on TV and I started questioning your honesty. Back to BK or TB.
You know…you can take a slice of cheese from your house
go to a mcdonalds and order a mcdouble
stick the home brought slice of cheese at the bottom of your sandwich
BAM you got yourself a double cheeseburger at value price!
=) call me ghetto but it surely saves you a few dimes and nickles
did mcdonalds change the ketchup receipe? It taste different. can,t eat it.
