Chick-fil-A responds to Election Day freebie rumors

One Election Day food freebie rumor: Chick-fil-A would hand out free sandwiches today. However, that’s not the case — sort of. Apparently, the promotion was limited to some restaurants. But, well, the info spread wildly. That’s the Internet for ya.

Here’s what the Atlanta chicken chain told me via email:

“Chick-fil-A did not implement this type of promotion on a national basis.  Most Chick-fil-A restaurant businesses are owned and operated by independent franchisee Operators.  Some Chick-fil-A franchisees may have planned or advertised such promotions.

Upon becoming aware of concerns related to election laws, Chick-fil-A Inc. has asked its restaurant franchisees to discontinue any promotion tied to providing free food products to those who voted.  Some Chick-fil-A franchisees may, in lieu of voter-related promotions, engage in other promotions today, unrelated to voting, that would be open to all customers.”

Chick-fil-A has West Coast headquarters in Irvine.
