Yes, the free Chipotle burrito rumor is true. But there’s a catch: you have to dress up like a burrito.
I got the burrito tip from Daily Deal & Travel blogger Jen Leo at the Los Angeles Times. I followed up with Chipotle, and they confirmed that the rumor, posted on Chowhound.com, is indeed true.
So, what does a burrito costume look like? Can you just wrap yourself in foil? And if so, that seems like a costly way to get a free burrito.

That’s a lot of work for a free burrito. Not worth it!
I agree, but I do love Chipotle!
A lot of work? Just wrap a piece of foil around your finger and you’re good to go. The only problem is that the line usually takes an hour. Go with friends and make new ones while you wait. The food is great and the price can’t be beat!
My husband and I have been getting the free burritos at Chipotle for a few years. We dress up very poorly — just wrap foil around the head. Last year I just took the shiny thing you put on your windshield to reflect heat from my car and wrapped it around me. You can usually find a lot of foil sitting in the trash cans outside Chipotle on Halloween. When people leave, they chuck the foil, and then other people pick it up and wrap themselves in it, and go into the restaurant. It’s kinda embarrassing how badly I dress. But then I give a lot of business to Chipotle throughout the year, so I guess I don’t feel THAT bad about it.
I think not every Chipotle participates, like how not every Chipotle participates in their free-burrito-on-tax-day promotion. Best to call your local restaurant before going.
Brutal!!
I was all set to get my free burrito.
Honestly, last year i literally had a piece of tin foil on my hand and they made me a burrito for free. its that easy.
I sewed shiny silver costumes for my husband and me several years ago - they’ve been more than worth it as we go every year.
Last year I wrapped up my “personal burrito” in foil and then flashed it… go the free burrito but then the cops came and took me away. Good thing was I got a few phone numbers from some of the females that were there…
last year i had to be COMPLETELY covered in foil to get my burrito.
soem random high school kids helped me get covered. but i got it.
Just want to let you know the offer starts at 6:00pm… a small fact we did not know upon entering. We went for lunch today and quickly realized we were the lone customers in burrito costumes. The Tustin Chipotle had pity upon us and gave us the burritos for free.
