Call it spooky politics.

Yes We Carve is a site dedicated to some Barack Obama-inspired pumpkin carvings, including the one below submitted by Aliso Viejo resident Kate Wiesman, 35.

She’s one of hundreds of artistic pro-Obama carvers who have submitted photos to the fledgling site. (See another photo from Anaheim)

Josh Jeter of Chicago and a few friends launched the “Barack O’Lantern” site Oct. 6, three days after they conceived the idea.  Since then, it’s taken off, with creative submissions coming from across the country.

Wiesmen, who I reached by phone on Thursday, said it took her one hour to carve her pumpkin. She cleverly spells out “Obama” using ghost figures to represent the two As.  “It reminded of a PacMan ghost,” she says.

Once she got the photo online, she sent it to her dad - a Republican. “I like to needle him.”

Jeter said most submissions like Wiesman’s are posted on the site except “attack pumpkins” or ones that blast rival Sen. John McCain, or his running mate Sarah Palin.

Stupid- I hope someone smashes it !!

  • NOBAMA says:

just what we need, a bunch of kids being brain washed into thinking NOBAMA is a good guy. i’m sure somewhere in the foothills of afghanistan bin laden is planning his alliance with NOBAMA. i hope for everyone’s sake this clown only ends up on pumpkins and isn’t actually elected or we are all f-d!

  • Dana says:

I think it’s rad, and I hope someone smashes it on your front door.

  • pinky22 says:

I think this one is great, I like how you incorporated the “O” logo. Vote for Obama!

  • F&E Fan says:

I really hope “katesstupid” isn’t advocating vandalism in her comment.

  • EH says:

    I’ll smash it!

  • Tina says:

Lol. Why so hateful? It’s just a pumpkin. No one’s stopping you from carving a McCain or a Palin pumpkin!

  • Megan says:

Well if they were McCain o’lanterns you’d all be eating it up. A lot of those are actually really good.

  • OCMama714 says:

I would not encourage any one to smash these pumpkins. Although I do not agree with Obama’s politics I would not encourage acts of vandalism. That is just childish we are grown-ups and need to set an example for our children. Whom ever carved these pumpkins put a lot of effort into them and that would be plain rude.

I don’t really consider this to be worthy of publishing. I come to this site to read about food and restaurants-not a pumpkin carved spelling a name. Not worthy of publishing, Ms, FF Maven!

  • Emery Ann Harris says:

Way to express your hatefulness there, katesstupid, Dana, and EH. Do you teach your kids to destroy everything they see that they don’t like?

OCMama714 is right. Be respectful of other people’s efforts - vandalism only diminishes the vandal.

  • gdb says:

yeah, people can carve a mccain pumpkin if they want. gotta let it get dried up and wrinkly before you start cuttin’. take your palin pumpkin to nieman’s and get it properly accesorized.

  • katie says:

i think it’s very classy that the site doesn’t accept hateful pumpkins attacking the other side. the positive cheerleader in me is very proud: pump up your team, don’t attack the other side. :)

they may end up smashed, however, because not everyone feels that things should always stay positive. gobama!

  • casm says:

You don’t have to smash their pumpkins. Let their light shine for Obama and it a few days the rotting smell may give them thought on what voting for no experience, no responsibility for his actions and associations, Nobama will bring.

  • Ghoulish says:

There’s nothing scarier than an Obama presidency!!!! LOL

  • Megan says:

I don’t know Ghoulish. These past 8 years of a Bush presidency has been pretty terrifying.
