Looks like Arby’s is engaging in some serious sub-sandwich smack talk.
The chain, whose parent company now owns Wendy’s, has introduced a $5 sandwich deal that includes a drink and fries. In announcing its new “full meal” deal, Arby’s mocks rival chains such as Quiznos and Subway — both of whom have lured consumers with their $5 footlong sandwich offers over the last several months.
“Unlike those other guys who promote $5 for just a sandwich as a great deal, Arby’s is really trying to help out today’s cash-strapped consumers with a full meal for the same price, including one of their favorite toasted subs, plus our famous curly fries and a drink,” Arby’s marketing executive Jason Abelkop said.

However, there’s one big catch that Arby’s failed to mention in its press release: the chain’s subs are about 6 inches long — half the size of Subway’s $5 footlongs.
So, the question is: Would you rather have one big sandwich for $5, or a smaller one at the same price that comes with a drink and fries?
The following sandwiches are included in Arby’s $5 offer: French Dip & Swiss Toasted Sub, Philly Beef Toasted Sub, the Classic Italian Toasted Sub, Turkey Bacon Club Toasted Sub. The Arby’s offer is valid through Nov. 8.
Speaking of Subway — Have you seen the chain’s new Internet campaign? Some groups are calling it racist, as it shows an image of Abe Lincoln (shown below) in a headband with the words: “Home of da $5 footlong.” Users can also make Honest Abe text friends with messages like this: “
Fellaz. I’m gonna go fool on a $5 footlong at Subway. Meet me there directly and bring your A Game.”

Arby’s is selling two of their toasted 6″ subs for $5. I’d rather eat that than one Subway 12″ sub for $5.
Concerning the Subway ad:
I can’t imagine how that could be considered racist. People of all races use slang and it doesn’t appear as if they’re overtly trying to portray a particular race (i.e. exaggerated facial features, or colored skin). It appears more to me like an attempt to sound him and youthful, not particularly of a certain race.
For those who look at that ad and say “that’s racist”, perhaps you should look at your own stereotyping which leads you to see a certain bit of slang and immediately conclude that it’s depicting a specific race.
Quinzos has also been offering a $5 small combo w/ chips and a drink for a couple of weeks now!
