Togo’s is finally getting into the value game. At least, once a week.
For the next two months, the sandwich chain will offer one, 6-inch sandwich for $1.99 every Wednesday. (FYI: A regular cold sub cost about $5.19, so this is a substantial discount.)
A different sandwich will be featured each week during this “Flashback Wednesdays” promotion. For each $1.99 sandwich sold, Togo’s will also donate money to support Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
For today (Oct. 8), the featured sandwich will be the No. 11 — aka Roast Beef and Avocado.
My take: At first, this promotion seems kinda disappointing. After all, Togo’s has a ton of sandwiches, so it’s a bummer that there’s only one being offered at a discount each week. Why not do a value menu of five sandwiches? By the way, do you remember when Togo’s CEO Tony Gioia told me in June he would NOT join the cheap sandwich wars during this economic meltdown? I guess he changed his mind.
Anyway, I will credit Togo’s for raising money for a good cause. Also I do think the weekly sandwich deal is a smart way to reintroduce Togo’s to consumers who have fled to cheaper eats at Quiznos and Subway.
The problem: When the Wednesday deal is over, will consumers return to Togo’s?

Hi baby, every wednesday Togo’s has a sub for only $1.99. You guys should go there for lunch
Love u!
Claudia
Based on what I know about the Consumer Price and Index and Inflation a $1.99 for a sandwich in the 1970s made for a very expensive sandwich. It’s possible it was less than that but they couldn’t afford to go down to what it really cost which maybe more in the ballpark of $1.29
Sorry I meant the Consumer Price Index not the Consumer Price and Index
Are you serious Nancy? Your article above makes it sound like you’d complain if you were hung with a new rope! You are disappointed that you can get a $6 for $1.99 because you can only get the one they decide to discount? You should be happy that they are offering the deal, especially since their CEO said he wasn’t even going to offer any discounts. Just go down and get the Roast Beef & Avocado and enjoy it! Sounds good! I think I am going to head down there right now!
I think it’s a good promo however is it to attract new customers or retain the old ones? I say this because in the last 3 weeks I’ve had the large pastrami sandwichs and each time I was underwhelmed by the amount of meat.
I’ve been eating Togo’s for 30 years and it was only recently they seemingly cut back on the weight of the fillings. I had entire bites of sandwich that were bread and mustard as though they’d put in the quantity from a regular sub. My wife also said the same thing about her sandwiches.
$6.99 for a sandwich that skimps on product makes we want to eat at Tummy Stuffer instead although I might be enticed to go back to Togo’s on a Wednesday for another shot. I’d be surprised if I was the first person to note the diminished quantity.
Thanks, duh for the comment.
Let me restate my position: All I wanted is a few more options for the $1.99 sandwich — aka a real value menu. End of Story. This is clearly just a limited-time campaign, so I will embrace it.
I plan to buy two or three later today, because I happen to be a No. 11 fan. Next week, I have no idea what the choice will be. But, if it’s something I like, I’ll probably take advantage.
It would attract more consumers if there was a bigger variety instead of just one pick. I’d only go to togos for the turkey and avacado =D
Wooot!! Count me in for the $2 subs, im gonna order a few tonight for supper!!
I’ve heard they have the #24 (Turkey and Avo) and the #9 (Pastrami) coming up in the next few weeks. I was there today and got a lot of value for the 2 bucks. I’m gonna go in other days just to support them. I think it’s great they are trying to help us when times are tough. You don’t see a lot of other guys doing it.
I read, I went, I ordered, we ate. Excellent value! Thanks for passing this info along, Nancy. I will be hitting Togos in my area on Wednesdays for the next two months!!
Great. I’m glad you found the post useful…I think it is a great deal, too. If anyone knows what the next “sandwich” is for each week, please post here ..
According to the Togos website this week’s $1.99 special is #24 - the turkey and avocado.
I didn’t make it last week, but will definitely go this week.
Haven’t been to a Togos in years. Usually hit Subway and Quiznos when I feel like a sandwich. So this promotion reminded me that they’re still around and will get me back in the store.
Not a good deal for me…went there yesterday and the featured sandwich is turkey and cranberry…not a turkey lover, so had to go somewhere else…they should be offering more so people can have a choice…
