KFC’s famous 11 herbs and spices recipe is being unlocked for the first time in 68 years, the chain said today.
“The secret’s out. Or, at least it will be later today. After being locked in a safe for 68 years, Col
onel Harland Sanders’ handwritten Original Recipe will temporarily be relocated to a secret-secure location as KFC modernizes the safekeeping of one of America’s top corporate trade secrets,” the company said.
The process for relocating the recipe reads like a CIA operation.
KFC, owned by Kentucky-based Yum Brands, has hired a national security expert and former New York City Police Detective to oversee the relocation. The chain is also using Louisville Metro Police Department and an armored Brink’s car.
All this security for a fried chicken recipe?

Puleeeez!
Only chickens concern about the recipe, me nothing, because I don’t eat KFC at all.
I saw it years ago, it goes like this:
Chicken
Salt & Pepper
Flour
1 dead rat
Mix together
Deep fry
Who cares.
Id rather go to juan pollo, they have really good chicken and it’s not fried. I love their potato salad too. Juan Pollo is the best!!!!!!!!!
Lame -_- They could blow it up, frame it, and walk it to the next location and no one would care.
KFC Chicken Recipe: Cornel sanders dingleberries..thats it folks!
Salt, Pepper, MSG.
William Poundstone had a lab disect the breading, for his book “Big Secrets: The Uncensored Truth About All Sorts Of Stuff You Are Never Supposed To Know” in 1983. He found only four ingredients flour, Salt, Pepper, and MSG
Last I checked, it’s 2008 not 1940. Really, with the advancement of science……come on……….This receipe wouldn’t fetch more than $10.00 on E-bay.
JohnB — I’m not surprised. All this secrecy stuff is probably just hype.
If you want to do your own fried chicken that beats the heck out of KFC, try dredging chicken pieces in Dixie Fry — it’s a seasoned flour mix that you can get at the grocery store — and deep fry or pan fry the chicken as usual. Yumm!
Although isn’t the recipe for original Coke another one of those closely guarded secrets? I don’t think salt, pepper, MSG or flour is an herb so perhaps there’s more to it.
gives me the feeling of dropping a load…of lard.
For the love of chicken it’s free A-D-V-E-R-T-I-S-I-N-G
It’s not chicken. That’s the secret. It tastes like chicken but what happened to the neighbors hamsters?
Carnivore…I’m with you! But I like to use the pork-flavored “Shake-N-Bake” on my chicken
Ha Ha my first job was at KFC.
And there’s more in the O.R. that salt pepper and flour. It comes in gigantic 25 lb bags, and it’s very different than the crispy recipe’s flour which comes in two seperate bags.
There’s definitely sage, at a minimum, as well as some thyme. You can smell it very strong right out of the bag. And it’s 11 herbs and spices, seeing as how flour and Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) is neither, that leaves 9 more besides the salt and pepper.
i have 11 herbs i use and really close to the secret recipie..
as this is our favorite place to eat.
and for you who do not no they do not fry chicken in oil.
it is all baked in a oven..i have been a cook for 20 years and my 11 spices taste like the sanders…….
