Wendy’s has launched a Double Stack cheeseburger for 99 cents nationwide. The Ohio-based fast food chain is already positioning the burger as a major rival to McDonald’s $1 Double Cheeseburger.

“The Double Stack cheeseburger … will go head-to-head against the double cheeseburger offered by Wendy’s largest competitor,” the company said in a statement.

Hmm. I wonder who Wendy’s is talking about?

The Double Stack replaces the Stack Attack, which debuted in December on Wendy’s Value Menu. That burger came with two beef patties, cheese, mayonnaise and ketchup.

The Double Stack features two junior patties*, cheese, ketchup, onion, mustard and pickles. Wendy’s will continue to offer a 99-cent Junior Bacon Cheeseburger and a 99-cent Crispy Chicken Sandwich.

The introduction of the Double Stack comes as McDonald’s announced plans recently to tweak its Double Cheeseburger in some markets to save money on ingredients.

In Southern California, no changes have been made to the cheap Mickey D’s burger which contains two beef patties, two slices of American cheese, a pickle, onions, ketchup and mustard.

*Wendy’s patties are made from fresh, not frozen, beef patties.

Why is this news? What is the fascination with price? Neither company is “OC-based” .

Mickey D’s has the best DC for 99 cents! When I go to Wendys, I’m always pleased with the taste of their burgers and fries. However, it takes quite a few items to satisfy me there. I always feel like I could still eat after I eat one or two of their jr bacon cheeseburgers. Mickey D’s on the other hand, 2 doubles and a small fry of the Value menu and I’m set!

Wendys is starting to get as expensive as JIB! I wanted to try their new bacon double burger, it cost 4.79. I passed and got my usual 2 jr bacons, small value fry,5 piece nugget.
