The debut of Orange County’s first Famima convenience store has been postponed a week, the company said Tuesday afternoon.
The upscale Japanese convenience chain was set to open Wednesday morning in Fountain Valley. However, delays in getting health and city permits has forced the chain to postpone the opening until July 15, said Hidenari Sato, executive vice president of Famima Corp.
That’s one day before a Fresh & Easy market will open on the same block in Fountain Valley.
FamilyMart Co. operates 13,000 convenience stores in Asia. The Japan-based food retailer debuted its first United States markets, named Famima, in 2005. The chain has been called an upscale 7-Eleven. Stores feature ready-to-eat gourmet sandwiches, slushes, international foods and beverages and greeting cards. The markets also offer basic convenience store products such as toothpaste and alcohol.
Famima’s is at 9475 Warner Ave.
