“After 50 years of delivering great pizza, today Pizza Hut revealed that efforts are currently underway to rebrand the chain as “Pasta Hut” in conjunction with the arrival of its new Tuscani Pastas,” so said Pizza Hut in a press release emailed to me Monday afternoon.
The pizza giant, owned by Yum Brands, introduced today a line of Tuscani pastas to diversify its menu. But, to change its moniker from Pizza Hut to Pasta Hut -- that’s brand lunacy. I was even sent this new company URL: www.newpastahut.com.
The site had the new “Pasta Hut” logo all over it. At that point, I knew it was a pretty nifty April Fool’s joke.
I was hoping for a fool-inspired marketing gimmick today… and I got it. So, Bravo, Pizza Hut. You had me going for just a few seconds.
Do you have any fast-food memories tied to April Fool’s? If so, write in and let us know.
To learn more about Pizza Hut’s new Tuscani pastas, click on the Maven’s New on the Menu special section. It can be found to the right of this blog under the Fast Food Alerts section. The file is updated regularly with menu changes.

Maybe next year they can change their name to Jabba the Hutt. Okay, that was dumb.
When in those 50 years did they deliver great pizza?
I remember the Cavatini pasta. Hopefully, what they’re doing is better than that, but serving the pasta in a cheap aluminium baking tray–that’s class. I hope they have ceramic dishes for the dining room.
For christs sake it’s Pizza Hut not spago. If you want china you better head to chez paris. I wonder if I can get some caviar with my next whopper.
