KFC testing KGC — Kentucky Grilled Chicken

March 24th, 2008, 8:24 am · 1 Comment · posted by Nancy Luna, Staff Writer

Col. Sanders is finally going lean.

KFC, a fast-food giant that’s built its empire on fried foods, said Monday that it is testing grilled chicken in various parts of the country. The item will be rolled out next year in all stores, including those in Southern California.

The news confirms rumors that have been flying about KFC for weeks. Earlier this year, the company filmed a new commercial at a Fullerton KFC, which has been remodeled and outfitted with special grilling equipment to accommodate the non-fried chicken.

The roll out of the grilled chicken comes 65 years after Col. Sanders first introduced his famous Original Recipe(R) fried chicken to America. The grilled chicken is being tested in Indianapolis, Colorado Springs, San Diego, Oklahoma City, Jacksonville, Fla., and Austin, Texas, KFC’s Kentucky Grilled Chicken is expected to be unveiled nationwide in early 2009, said KFC, which is owned by Yum Brands.

Maybe people will or can remember that KFC did this in the early or mid 1980’s when restaurants like El Pollo Loco and Kenny Rogers Roasters and other grill chicken restaurants were all the rage.

What happen to KFC? as I recall, it was popular, they roasted a hole chicken, but not enough people/customers order it for KFC to keep it on the menu. I wish they bring back the hole BBQ Chicken deal. It was very tasty
