Diedrich Coffee in Irvine increased its quarterly revenue by nearly 30 percent to $12.4 million, the company reported Monday.
For the quarter ended Dec. 12, total revenue increased by $2.8 million — boosted primarily by a 41 percent increase in the coffee roaster’s wholesale division.![]()
None of this is surprising, given the fact that Diedrich has spent more than a year building its wholesale business. That became the company’s strategy in 2006 when it sold several underperforming company-owned retail cafes to Starbucks.
Ironically, the remaining company-operated Diedrich cafes performed well during the quarter — as same-store sales increased 6.6 percent, according to a quarterly report filed Monday. Same-store sales are a key indicator of a retailer’s financial health.
In spite of the boost, Diedrich closed one of its last units near UCI in November. The Irvine Crossroads Diedrich is now the only company-owned cafe unit left in Orange County. A franchise kiosk also exists at the Santa Ana Crevier BMW dealership.
