Not many food products can brag about winning this title: Best Fake Meat.riblets_bestfakemeat.jpg

But, that’s exactly what Irvine-based Wholesome & Hearty Foods can now boast about. The veggie food manufacturer nabbed accolades for its BBQ Riblets — presented recently with the award for Best Fake Meat by peta2 — a national youth animal rights organization. The product is one of many frozen veggie items made under Wholesome’s Gardenburger label.

The fake meat title was among several “Libby Awards” handed out by peta2. Libby Awards honor animal-friendly people and products. Other awards include Best Vegan Ice Cream and Best Veggie Burger.

Gardenburger’s BBQ Riblets were a “big favorite” among peta2’s nearly 800,000 subscribers, who voted on the various categories. The product, found in the freezer section in most grocery stores, beat out faux meats such as tofurky sausages and Boca’s chik’n patties, peta2 said.

this was not the original company.

gardenburger was started in another state, think it was the name of the owners resturant. ocreg really does its homework.

its sad when regular food giants take over, i dont trust them and stop buying the product. that happened to silk soy milk and its a shame.

cliff bars is an example of a small, natural mom and pop company staying true to its customers and core beliefs, they refuse to be bought out.
