Checkers Drive-in Restaurants has announced plans to build 12 restaurants in Orange County with the first expected to open in Fullerton.

A franchisee has signed a development agreement to open the restaurants — the first Checkers to open in Orange County. Florida-based Checkers is the sister chain to Rally’s, also known for its double drive-through lanes.

I have never eaten at a Checkers, so let me know if you think this great news for Orange County.

The Checkers in Fullerton will be at the corner of Euclid Street and Orangethorpe Avenue — or the same shopping center where Tesco’s Fresh & Easy will open next year. For more information, CLICK HERE to read Fullerton reporter Barbara Giasone’s full story.

My own opinion? Checkers/Rallys make some of the best burgers in the fast food industry. They actually taste like beef, unlike the unidentifiable wafer you get at the likes of McDonald’s. Their fries, which are coated in a seasoned batter are also quite good.

They must be great at franchising, because making burgers isn’t their thing. The meat tastes boiled, and the buns are usually soggy. I tried them three times in Albuquerque N. M. (where they are no longer in business), and the conclusion was; three strikes and your out.
