About 70 people huddled outside the Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market in Anaheim just before the store made its Orange County debut Thursday.

Once in, many hustled about the store, grabbing everything from individually-packed salads to pastries to heat and serve dinner meals. Here’s what shoppers had to say about Tesco’s new American grocery store:

“I’m really curious. I’m hoping it’s similar to Trader Joe’s” – Alice Beldin, 75, of Anaheim, just after entering the Anaheim store when it first opened.

“We’re going out to LA today, but we wanted to stop by because we’re so excited about having this kind of store here.” – Riki Liufau, 53, of Anaheim

“It’s kind of a laid back, Plain Jane – a no frill store.” – Doug Vogt, 69 of Anaheim

“I’m anxious to come back. We needed something like this in West Anaheim.” — Sheila Woolsey, 78 of Anaheim

“I currently go to three different stores to shop. Now I can do it all in one spot.” – Lynda Bloemke, 44, of Anaheim.

“We like organic foods, so this is going to be ideal for us.” — June Allen. The ex-British pat was among the first to enter the Anaheim store.

Information: The Anaheim Fresh & Easy is at 3170 W. Lincoln Ave. The next Fresh & Easy market to open in Orange County will be at 23719 Moulton Parkway in Laguna Hills. That store opens Nov. 28. For more information on store locations, CLICK HERE.

These are great quotes. I can’t wait to try it — one’s opening within a couple miles from me.

I stopped by at 3:30pm on Thursday. They had all the registers staffed with clerks and baggers. So, I didn’t see if the self-check out worked. They also had a couple of ’suits’ standing watching the check out. (They were dressed casually but had ID badges on - they were definitely upper management).
I bought a couple of items - Mushroom Risotto - very good, and a couple of yogurts.
A lot of their pre-made stuff was sold out. The food preparation lady was handing out shortbread cookies - nothing special.
I much prefer Trader Joe’s for it’s selection and samples. There will be a Fresh & Easy close to my work soon. I will probably use it for an occasional lunch, but not for any major food purchases.
