Wendy’s International said Wednesday that it has stopped running the chain’s graffiti ad in movie theaters.
However, the ad wasn’t pulled out of pressure. (To read about the ad flap, CLICK HERE.)
“The cinema ad that you’re referring to is no longer running, according to our schedule,” spokesman Bob Bertini told me this morning via email.
He did not elaborate any further, and referred to the controversy as “old news.” Hmmm. If it’s such old news, why hasn’t anyone reported that Wendy’s has nixed the ad less than a week after a Denver official took the chain to task for the graffiti commercial?
I Googled the topic, and couldn’t find any reports of the pulled ad, which portrays an artist tagging a wall. Wendy’s had called the ad a stylish portrayal of art.
Anyway, it seems Wendy’s dodged this bullet quickly.
Maven musings: Lately, fast food chains are pushing the envelope with ads featuring gyrating teachers and graffiti artists. When it will stop? Or, is this just the beginning?
I personally prefer comedy over controversy. (Think fumbling Dan of Del Taco, or sarcastic Jack of Jack in the Box.)
How about you?
