After angering educators with a sexy teacher ad, Carl’s Jr. reps said they will expel the female character from the “flat buns” commercial.
“Many people are not taking the ad as it was intended to be taken,” CKE Restaurants stated today. “We will be re-editing it (the commercial) to remove the female teacher character and focus exclusively on the rappers. We believe these changes will eliminate the primary source of concern and we anticipate that the revised ad will begin airing by the weekend.”
CKE is the parent company of Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s. Both burger chains were promoting its new Patty Melt with the commercial created by Los Angeles ad agency Mendelsohn/Zien.
The ad shows a leggy blond teacher gyrating in a classroom while male teen students sing a rap song about her “flat buns.”
Brad Haley, a CKE spokesman, said the revised commercial is being delivered today to stations across the country.

From “Long May It Wave” to “shake that thing.” Carls sure has changed it’s tune over the years.
People really need to get over this commercial. It’s funny and great advertising, it got peoples attention just like it wanted to. Seriously though, isn’t there much more serious thing going on in todays world. Do people seriously get offended by this commercial, turn the channel if you don’t like it and get over it. Worry about something else.Don’t be so uptight!
This is ridiculous! The most entertaining in years. In the rest of the world we are mature enough to laugh at lifes nuances. Here in America, we must sanitize everything. This is really a sad commentary on how socially immature we are.
This country is becoming rediculous !! ANYTHING can be offensive to ANYBODY. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. Maybe I’m offended at our school system. Maybe I should complain about their advertisments begging for money, to pay for illegals who are swamping our school system. Yea, it OFFENDS me. Can we please write an article about that?
Are you freaking kidding me!!! Well look at it this way, Carl’s is getting even more pup for their new burger. Maybe if teachers looked like that, more kids would pay attention!!
Wow, talk about Americans being thin-skinned. It’s a joke people, get over it!
People have NO sense of humor….
this is completely rediculous!! is there no fun allowed? are they jealous, offended because they think it is protraying teaching as a “joke”, or they just don’t want students to stare at their “flat buns”? what could the complaint possibly be??
I still want a patty melt.
I’ve seen the commercial. Carl’s Jr has a new burger? Since when?
Political Correctness is reaching disgusting levels !!
The only reason I believe why there is negative feedback on the commercial is because she was a attractive women and the non attractive women were jealous becasue they didnt look that good on top of their desk. Get over it!!! Get out and run and soon you will look good to. LOL
Just tried the Patty Melt. It was pretty good but if I got it again I’d probably get the Six Dollar variety to get better meat, and maybe even get raw onions in place of the grilled ones since the grilled ones on mine made my rye bread all soggy. Oh, and I used the coupon from your other entry and two employees there said they’d never even seen it before. And I still haven’t seen the commercial . . .
The idiots who complain about things like this have no sense of humor. This ad was very creative and did exactly what it was supposed to; get attention and make people remember it. Carls Jr. is ridiculous pandering to the cry babies out there who were offended by this ad. We sanitize too much for those few that are offended by every little thing.
Maybe parents should have their kids outside playing instead of watching so much tv. If parents didn’t use the tv as a baby sitter, companies could advertise to their target audience without this stupid stuff happening. It’s time to point the blame where it belongs.
As a professional educator, I am please that they are depicting teachers as interesting and engaging. I am more offended by the new back to school ad for Vans, showing an agonizing student on their way to class. It could have been worse, guns, instead of buns!
To those of you who don’t understand the large reaction to this ad, think about the effort that goes into teaching our children non-violence (dontbestupid) and respect. Both important in a civil society. The Flat Buns commercial degraded the authority and respect our society tries to offer female teachers. Not everyone is inclined to fight for a socially responsible media, but many of us do. There might be a place for this ad, and others like it, YouTube or CarlsJr.com! Keep it on the web so that the Carl’s Jr. “young, hungry male” can find it . Responsible parents and teachers will always fight to keep this kind of thing off of our televisions before 9pm and out of our living rooms. You may feel the same way some day. It comes with growing up.
Let’s not pretend that the objectifying of women, especially women in positions of authority, isn’t connected with violence.
Carl’s Jr. wins! Why? Because we’re all talking about it! This is America, if you don’t like the commercial or the product, then don’t want, and don’t buy - the power of the purse is what drives our society. You people who are offended, that’s fine, however stop trying to prevent other people from seeing things that bother you.
Come on, all you folks who think it’s just fine to portray teachers in this light. As the mom of a middle school boy, I’m trying to teach him to respect women. Stuff like this doesn’t make my job, or his teachers’ job, any easier!
